Default Compartment Modification for iPhone

Greetings,

I currently ride a 2019 Street Glide Special. The compartment for holding a cell phone is a wee bit small, especially for the newer iPhone 12 Pro Max and other brands. My experience with a specific cell phone holder recently ended in disaster - yep, hit a bump and it popped out and went tumbling down I-40. Therefore, I wanted something a little more secure. I currently connect the iPhone to the Harley utilizing the Harley WHIM and Harley Sena 30K.

I removed the OEM foam insert (I think it's designed for an iPhone 5) and carefully lined the interior with rubberized padding. See pics below. I also used a neatly coiled Apple brand cable for connecting the iPhone to the bike. Question: Is there a way to pull the OEM black cable further into the compartment. I tried and it will not budge...even sprayed WD40 for lubricant - no go.

Thoughts are welcome. Ride safe.

Semper Fi

Here’s what it looks like. What you do from here is up to you.

Its held in by a grommet. Might have to hit from the back side. Remove the fair and address it from that angle

JH,

I removed the fairing and pulled till the cows came home...even used WD40...did not budge...I'll try again...I'll shoot some 40 on the inside as well. just don't want to "break it."

Much thanks,

It looks like you would need to push it through from the back side. From there, disconnect it from the radio, take it out and see if the cable will slide in the grommet.

You need to remove the gromet from the hole, it compresses on the wire. Once out and a little lube can put it wherever you want. You should also get a short 90deg cable, takes up much less room than the straights.
Example:

I have the android S21 and it would not fit into that compartment with a regular straight cable. I bought one that's at a 90゚ angle it's a good quality cable and it's only about a foot long. It fits in there just fine now. But if I ever upgrade to a phone that's even slightly larger this will be a problem for this compartment
