Default Stage 1

I’m not exactly sure what a stage 1 mod is. Maybe the air filter and tune? This is for a 2021 Road Glide.

Would something like this work?

https://www.harley-davidson.com/us/en/shop/Screamin-Eagle-High-Flo-KN-Air-Filter-Element-Heavy-Breather/p/29400275

…or, do I need this..

https://www.harley-davidson.com/us/en/shop/Screamin-Eagle-Heavy-Breather-Elite-Air-Cleaner-Kit/p/29400406

What tuner is recommended?

If it matters, I’ll have 4.5 Rinehart slip-ons.

Anything else required for Stage 1?

Harley Stage 1 Vs Stage 2 Vs Stage 3 Vs Stage 4: In-depth Explanation (prosafety101.com)

Harley Davidson Stage Kits 1, 2, 3, 4 Explained - Law Abiding Biker Podcast

Good information there. Stage 1 is air intake, a tuner, and exhaust. Any tuner other than the HD one will void your warranty. The intake, I think (could be wrong here) comes down to personal preference on the the look of it as long as it is the high flo type.

My RG is currently at dealer getting stage 1. I'm not worried about warranty (34K miles on a '16). Getting high flow air filter, keeping stock filter cover. Vance and Hines headers and mufflers. Power Vision tuner.

Service writer did ask if I was concerned about warranty, my answer probably directed his recommendations on parts.

But keep in mind that the M8s from the factory breathe as well as they can. Therefore, a Stage 1 on an M8 will have negligible improvement in performance, and in fact certain exhaust can reduce low end torque.

Thanks for the info. I haven’t yet checked out the link but I will.

Congrats! I’m sure you’re excited to get your bike back with the mods done.

Are you replacing your OEM exhaust for the first time? Do you know what high flow air filter you’re getting? What made you decide on the Power Vision tuner over HD’s?

I guess that’s good, but maybe bad depending on the exhaust.

These are what I’m getting. I hope these aren’t going to reduce performance.

I'm the third owner (at least) and slip ons were added before I got it, Harley CVOs I believe.

If your bike is under warranty I would stay with Harley parts. I believe that the Power Vision tuner or any other non-Harley tuner will void your powertrain warranty.

Just my experience, I put about 500 miles on my RGS before I did stage 1. SE heavy breather, FP3 tuner, and Vance and Hines big radius pipes. Definitely a noticeable difference to me. I had only been back on a bike about 18 months when I had it done and the RGS was my second bike (since the hiatus). It could be just my excitement and lack of recent experience, but I feel like it runs much better.

completely agree here. Did Stage 1 upgrade to ‘18 Limited and noticed a pretty significant improvement over stock.

Ness Big Sucker
FM stainless head pipe
V&H Twin Slash mufflers
PV tuner

Got all components from Fuel Moto and the map they preloaded seems spot on. I’m happy with the results.
