Default 2005 Road King Classic EFI U1240 error code

Hoping I can find an answer here. I’m trying to install a new HD Speedo that should be plug and play but I get a U1240, dead data port, error. I’ve traced the wires everything is hot but data won’t transfer. New gauge powers up but the transfer never happens.

ideas?

Thanks

You could try cleaning the data port with some electrical cleaner. (Must be electrical cleaner specifically) maybe one of the pin holes got some gook in it. Or maybe one of the wires in the harness has a break in it. So hard to tell sometimes with wires even if they "look" good they can still be broken inside the pristine looking sheathing.

I’ve traced and tested continuity for all the wires in and out of the data port. Everything is live and continuous.

Why the speedo change, did you have that error code prior? Sounds like a connection not making contact.

Old Speedo, the decal gets hot, puckers and stops the needle. Not sure about the error. Didn’t have the need to lol. I’ve removed and relooked the TSM. I had a TSSM and thought that it might be the problem but after getting the old TSM locked back in I still get the U1240 code. From the TSM.

New gauge powers up, lights up, says no cal, then shows the transfer icon and 0. Never transfers.

Are you running a tuner of any sort?

No. Stock ECM, old changes made we’re adding the TSSM. did the 30 minute password sync and everything was working fine.

Default The plot thickens

Just spent a half day vacation to ride the the Harley dealership to have this fixed and installed. Low and behold, since the speedometer/tach that is in the bike now is a HD part but not the “STOCK” speedometer I’m SOL. Spent $315 on the new Speedo, get to order another stock Speedo from HD with my mileage loaded on it for another $350, then the new Speedo will sync and work.

There are no words to explain how pissed off I am at this point with HD double dipping us owners. Might be time to look at an Indian.
