Default Oil change tools and supplies.

2016 Streetglide Special.

So I'm thinking of changing Primary, Transmission and motor oil by my self. I have oils but need list of tools and supplies necessary to get this job done. I do not have any tools and will need to buy everything. Wondering if you guys could help me find the right tools. This is the only thing I'll do by my self, for rest of the stuff I'll ride 125 miles to the closest shop.

Also is there a ring for each nut and primary cover that I need to replace ? TIA.

1st tool is a factory service manual for your ride. Look on eBay for a good used one is your best bet. Owners manual will help too if you got one. Now I’m assuming you working on a 2016 FLHXS? I don’t have any experience on those so I can’t really tell you exactly what tools you will need but a drain pan and one of those filter drains if you don’t want a mess under the filter on the motor. On my 2010 FLHX I use wrenches on the drain plugs but don’t remember the exact size. Trans dipstick also needs a Allen wrench to remove it and the primary will need either a Allen or Torx depending on what yours is.

5/8" wrench for the drain plugs, they're all the same.
Drain pan.
Filter wrench.
3/8" Allen key for trans fill.
T27 driver for primary cover
Funnel to refill.
There is an oring on each plug, I do not know the size.

I'd use a few scraps of 2x4 to park the tires and stand on to gain some clearance underneath.

3/8 drive T-27
3/8 drive 3/8" allen socket
3/8 drive torque wrench
oil filter wrench
drain pan
jack

Your owners manual has the pictures/info to get this done.

I did. Thanks for checking. Rode it back to the guy who did it. He replaced the gasket and it’s been good so far.

Thanks for recommending Desert thunder V-twin. Talked to Manny and I’ll be riding to Moses lake for 50k mile service soon.

The most important question is…

Which oil are you using?
