Ultra Classic Tour Pack Quick-Release
Hey all, I’m sorry to hit you up with a question that I’m sure has been beat to death in the path. Most of my searching has brought up older threads.
Just picked up a really nice 2010 Ultra Classic Electra Glide Limited and would like to look at converting my tour pack to a quick release. I know Harley has an all inclusive kit for near $600.
Wondering if there’s a less expensive route that seems pretty good?
Thanks!
Jon

Many here will shy away from a response that directs you towards the aftermarket versions that you might find on eBay, Amazon, etc.
I can tell you that the HD parts are going to fit, but they are not necessarily any 'better' than the other options.
I've seen factory parts (not complete kits, just parts of the kit) listed on Offerup from time to time at significant savings.
That's where I found my current setup, which was complete (in a mix of HD and aftermarket parts), for about $90.
How often do you actually see yourself removing it and installing it?
If it's going to be an infrequent event, I suspect the aftermarket kit would be sufficient for most.
Mine has a bit of wiggle, but it isn't very much.

Maybe I’m not looking in the right spots but don’t see much in the way of aftermarket options. Otherwise I’ll keep an eye out in the classifieds.
I thought about doing it when I got my Ultra, but I rarely use by saddlebags anymore now that I have a tourpak. I find it more convenient.
I thought custom dynamics made a kit though…..

Toughest thing with doing the pre-Rushmore models (2013 and older) is doing something with the passenger headset jack that mounts to the tour pack. My brother has the same bike as the OP that we did it to. The passenger headset jack is just held in place with a spring, so its easy to get it to release from the tour pack, but then you got to "hide" it somewhere under the seat (with its "stem") when the tour pack is off. I have done it, and it can be done easy enough, I just wished it could be unplugged easy. Everything else can be unplugged easy enough... its just figuring it all out. AND IF someone knows of an easier way to deal with the passenger headset jack (like that is on a 2010) cause I missed something, please say it... I'm interested too
The 2014 and newer bikes are a piece of cake, unplug 4 connectors at or near the tour pack (audio harness, lighting harness, 2 antennas) and its off the bike.
Then once the tour pack is off, its dealing with how to address what else leaves with the tour pack (antennas mounts, tag mount, rear turn signals on some bikes, etc)...
FWIW, I use all HD stuff if I can on the hardware... tends to be better quality in my opinion. As far as the kit goes, does it have everything you need to do it your way.
I used different rear lighting than what was in the kit, a different AM/FM antenna, and a different tag mount... but was lucky enough to get the dealer to credit me those items and add the stuff I wanted to switch out from the kit.

I thought of installing one but found I like the storage space of the tour pack and decided not to do it.

If it's only on rare occasions you'll be using the TP, then it might be better to bolt/unbolt it in those occasions. Just a thought, but a 1 beer job to make quick disconnects for the lights if you have those.
For the most part it would stay off, my wife rarely rides with me. Only time I would use the tour pack is if I were hitting the grocery store or needed the extra storage on rare occasions.
