Quick detach hardware help and question!..UPDATE!!
Got a 06 Streetglide. Bought a med height sissy bar from a forum member as they decided to get a taller one. Part number was 52933-97b .... It came with brand new docking hardware #53803-06... I then ordered a new backrest pad to match the seat. Anyways while looking at the instructions for the docking hardware...it shows and mentions a part "K" which is a bar that goes from the front mount to the rear mount. I dont have that part it seems. Is that part needed...did they change something....and/or should it have been in the mounting hardware? As stated many times by others the instructions with the kit sucks!!! lol
Have read some tips and install instructions on here and they all appear to have that bar.... So now I am wondering what to do..
Thanks guys!

I had the same experience. Installed the set without the connectors and have had no problems at all. I can't imagine what they're for. Works fine without them.
Glad to see that it works without them... BUT!!!! I emailed the guy I got them off of and he said they were lose in the bottom of the box he shipped them in. I had threw the box and the shipping popcorn out and luckily the trah hadnt came, so I ran out a few minutes ago and there they were! Was freaking for nothing...lol Still wondering as to their use though now that I hear it works without them. Thanks guys...
I missed them too when did my install; came across a thread here somewhere with really good pictures and description and figured out where they went from that. I wish I could find it for you too. I added them and believe they help distribute the load making the backrest installation stronger for both the passenger and any luggage you may attach to it to.

I agree. Helps distribute load it looks like. I did a search and found the link to a good install with pics...

Moco updated them because the rear plates were distorting or bending under high load. I think it was mainly due to the solo tourpac kit. If you look at them mounted it puts alot of stress on the rear mount, then add the rider leaning on it with a full load in and on the pac.
Just thought I would post an update.. After ready some archives about dealers charging 3 hours labor...and some guys doing it themselves but taking 5-6 hours..I was a bit apprehensive to do it as I dont have ANY patience.. well, I said the hell with it and started tonight. You are better of to throw the HD instructions away and use the PDF link above with its pics and such. Did the whole thing in 2.5 hours. It probably isnt exactly perfect *** the backrest goes on a little snug, but not too bad. After I got home I found out that the local indy shop said it would do the install for 30.00!!! Wish I would have known that as I wouldnt have messed with it knowing that...but now that its done, I feel like I accomplished something and got to spend quality time with the bike....lol
Anyways, many thanks to whoever did the writeup in the above link. Worked out AWESOME using it on the laptop for reference there besides the bike while working on it. Thanks again!!!

the 2 black straps as i understand it were for an older fender style.. They are not needed anymore on the newer bikes. i just did a post on this recently. i put mine on anyway just because i had them and the wife and i are not quite as lite as we used to be.
Interesting....Oh well, mine are on there. Cant hurt anything I guess other than might have looked cleaner without them.. Not as light myself anymore either!!!
