Compensator ? Help
If you don't have a new adjuster yet, consider the current auto adjuster. It is considerably improved over the previous design. The teeth are relatively fine, the bottom rail is thicker and stronger and it has two springs, the coil around the shaft for adjusting and springs under the pad to absorb small variations while the chain is running. This eliminates the extremely tight problem with the previous designs. Also, your primary cover does not have the "adjusting window" allowing a tensioner adjustment without removing the primary cover.
Bump update
i got into it Daturday only to find out my springs had no basket containing them. Turns out that I have a Sreamin Eagle baskets, called up Lyle and left message, today I see he called me yesterday, surprised and I missed the call. I called him this am and he said return part and he would send another spring out. The earliest he would get it out is Saturday, please keep him in thoughts and prayers he was in Denver at Mayo Clinic 🙏🏻 I told him concentrate on his health my spring isn’t important right now.

The primary housing must be opened. Check the tightness, the condition of the teeth, and the tension spring.
The part I got is a new spring to add to compensator. Check this video, I bought it from Lyle. For my 07 RK here in Fl.

One thing that Lyle misses in the video is the sliding cam splines. They typically wear out and in that case I'd go to a later comp. What happens is the clutch starts to knock..
This area is where the comp wear is..
Hi,
Like Mike said, without listening to the bike run, it is hard to tell.
When the bike is hot (or cold), does starting the bike make a grinding noise?
Have you removed the compensator for inspection?
The OEM compensators are notorious for going bad in bikes with the 96ci engine. The solution from the MOCO was to install a Screamin Eagle Compensator, rotor, springs and an oil deflector.

Hello everyone, thank you all for the responses. Got my new spring on screamin eagle kit, turns out doing the same thing from the first time. Turns out after having a friend drive it, he said he'd have to tear down. He checked tension on belt and said it was extremely tight, I touched belt from underside and agreed way to tight. I got home went underneath again to check belt and this time way to loose. Guess what guys and gals, yeah, belt is worn out, that slippage on first second gear and noise, noise is primary spinning without traction, belt worn. Now to order a new belt. God bless and thank you again.
