Default Newer/Longer aftermarket filter

Anyone find a traditional aftermarket oil filter replacement for the newest longer hd filter for the M8 ??

The shorter oil filters were carried over from the Twin Cam line and used on the first Milwaukee-Eight models.
Black: 63731-99A
Chrome: 63798-99A

New (longer) filters
The longer Super Premium 5 oil filters were introduced in 2020 for Milwaukee-Eight engines to increase filter media surface area and oil flow.
Black: 62700296
Chrome: 62700297

I’m going to try this next time I need one. Not sure why the link isn’t working but JP cycles has one that is for the Milwaukee 8 and looks a lot like a K&N filter with the nut. 25% longer than the twin cam filter and I believe it’s 5 microns too.

I have not done any research to see exactly what is different between the old HD filters (shorter) and the new HD filters (longer). But for my part, I have not been using HD filters for going on 10-12 years.

I use HiFloFiltro oil filters on my Harley engines.

HiFloFiltro, is the original supplier to K&N of their HD oil filter with the 17mm nut on the end (there is an interesting, but long, story about that). They are a highly regarded international PowerSports filter supplier.

HiFloFiltro has two oil filter models available for the Harley line.

They have the HF170 (B or C for black or chrome). It fits both Twin Cams and M8 models. The 170 does not have the 17mm nut on the end.

They also make HF171RC (BRC for black or CRC for chrome). It too fits both Twin Cams and M8 models. It has the 17mm nut on the end. It also has a different "tri-fibre filtration media" which has higher flow and better filtration than the HF170 filter.

I've been using the HF171CRC on my 4 Twin Cams. They range from an '01 Stage I 88" Springer to a '16 bagger with 124" S&S crate engine from FuelMoto @ 135HP & 151TQ. If I had an M8, I would run the HF171CRC filter on it too.

They are a high quality filter and I can get them cheaper than K&N or Harley filters.

IMHO, the HF171RC model will be more than adequate for an M8 engine, but it's just not as long as the newer HD filters.

As always..... Your bike, your choice.

I bought a standard oil filter from my local dealer a few months ago for my twin cam, and was surprised it was made by Mahle. It's stamped on the top of the filter. You could do a google search to see whats available, and possibly get it at your local auto parts store.,,,

I switched to the HiFlo HF171RC after the Harley crimped core slots debacle, the HiFlo core has holes, nice open holes instead of poorly formed slots.
Apparently HD went to a new core in the filters but I really like the HiFlo quality and also my nice quiet valve train, finally.

Put me in the hiflo filtro camp. Whenever I put in an order with JP Cycles I have them through in a few filters.

I think the HF171RC are the same as the K+N 171/171C.

The new harley filter from what I can find. 5 micron, 3.5 to 4" (102mm) in length (longer than the previous version). 3/4-16 thread size. diameter 74mm to 76mm.

I need to go on a hunt Maybe AI can help me find a few to choose from.

The twin cams use the shorter filter.
