Default 07 SG/Tourer Cruise Control Install

Have any of you out there have installed cruise yourself? Thinking of picking up the kit and doing the install myself.

I did and it was pretty easy. Get some long nose pliers from Harbor Freight to slide the cable in the ring behind the AC. It took me about 4 hrs. I could do it now in about 1-1.5 now.

BTW, I have not experience working on Harleys so anyone can do it. There is a lot of help on the forum here for this.

If you have some basic mechnical skills, you can handle it.

You will need to perform the cruise intialization or you will have a
bad lag in the engagement.

My experience was the same as Swipter's, but I didn't find it particularly easy. Murphy's presence was unusually prominent on the night I did this job. Like Swipter, I could do it again in much less time, as the instructions were lacking IMO. Buy a service manual before starting, and look over the install procedure before hand. I got hung up on the pin assignments for the switch, which were not clearly provided in either the instructions or the CC section of the manual. I found them only by rummaging around in the electical section.

Consider buying two extra brass ferrules for the throttle cables, as it is likely you'll lose at least one. I did, and after a 30-min. search went to the HD dealer for more. After returning, I found the lost ferrule within 30 sec. in a location searched several times before. Typical. As I said, Murphy was awake and attentive that night.

The Harbor Freight extra-long needle-nose pliars is a good suggestion, as with them you can install the cable to the throttle body with ease.

Thanks all... I'll install it this week. Initialization instructions seem pretty straight forward.

Before you start take the little E clip in the kit go to local hardware store match it up and buy about 10 of them you are going to lose at least 2 before you get the clip on the cruise cable. Remember patience because that little clip is a bitch to seat on the cable end.

Install complete. Went pretty smooth with the exception of re-installing the ignition switch. Removed it while in fork lock position and then had to move it to remove the lower switch housing. What a PITA to re-install... used all my resources then had another beer to cool down....wallah! the switch went in and all is well. :-)

Thanks for all who posted in reply... I considered all the suggestions.

Good for you; Congrats. Now go spend the $$$ you saved by DIY on more stuff for your bike.

My hat is off to you doing the job yourself. I chickened out and had the dealer to it. Either way it is a great addition that I like very much.
