When I DO leave it gear, I use the kill switch to remind me to find neutral before starting.

yep trying to make the bikes idiot proof.
But each year we have a new crop of better idiots!
That reminds me of a famous quote, "Nobody ever went broke underestimating the stupidity of the American public." You can try, but nothing is "idiot-proof".

Did something similar a few weeks ago. Of course right in front of an audience. Got on, started it up and apparently the left side of my brain was feeling a little dyslexic. It told my foot to put it in gear before telling my hand to pull the clutch. Did a little lurch forward and stalled out. Doh!!!

I think the one thing that could be worse (I've done it twice), is to take off with a disc lock on your front wheel. It seems that there is always an audience around when this happens! Both times for me I got the smackdown to the ground!

I solved this problem by not using one and making sure that I had plenty of insurance!

That's one of those lessons that are taught once, like touching the pipes or letting your brother in law borrow your bike.

Your hand just accidentally slipped off the clutch, wasn't your fault......

Seriously... ? Wow.

Well, another lesson learned from the school of idiocy!!

I always make sure my bike is in nuetral and pull the clutch in before starting. Today I went to pick up
my bike after it had been in the shop for a while getting work done. Chalk it up to excitement, stupidness,
old age, or all of the above, I didn't do my usual check!!

The bike surged forward but since the engine didn't catch, it stopped after only a few inches. Lucky for me because
someone else had parked his bike in front of me. Double disaster!! Of course there was an audience watching
so we all got to "share" my pain with some laughs.

Lesson learned, ALWAYS check for neutral and pull that clutch in!!!!!!

Say what you want for safety switches, but I watched a guy a coule of years ago almost launch himself off the front of a ferry boat as it was just closing in on the dock. Scared me half to death, as I thought he was going over, and in turn into the props. He stopped just short of the end of the deck. He looked at me afterword, and the look on his face was, shall we say priceless.
