Default Danger Without IDS?

My 2007 RKC feels great without the IDS. No clatter and just enough 5th gear whine to let me know I'm in 5th. Will not installing the IDS be bad for the bike? Will the tranny, clutch or belt wear out sooner?

Nope. You have nothing for IDS to improve or to "fix."

104 years of no IDS and they were fine. Now all of a sudden they come out with this IDS system and everyone thinks they have to have it. Just another way the Moco is getting money from you for nothing.

Not installing it will not be bad for the bike. Not installing it will in all likelihood not allow at least the tranny and belt to last maybe the one or two percent longer that they might with one in line. Every thing in the chain from the top of the piston to the tire contact patch, where power is transfered from one component to the next, will have an easier go of things with the IDS; it just stands to reason. But things aren't all that bad without it, either.

It's probably a better idea to have one than to not have one, but the difference isn't monumental at all and in the end the cost will probably prove to be a wash.
