I have a GPSMAP 60 and tried to come up with a good idea to mount it. Just gave up and bought a 550, comes with a mount and more features than I need. Love it.

RAM mounts are your friends. I added two RAM ball mounts to my inner fairing, along with a grommeted hole to pass the cables thru'. I'm happy with it.

This is the mount I have for my 60CX.MyCX isthe same as yours, just has a memory card in it. I'm going to drill a hole in the plate where my helmet cord attachesand drill a hole in my mount and attach them together with a short sleeve or something in between. It's the plastic plate just below the gas fill cap.I'll still be able to take the GPS off that way. It just unsnaps.

The RAM mount system has mounts for almost everything. I have a camera mount, GPS mount, IPASS mount, and water bottle mount, they all work excellently
