I know this has been beat to death but i have an 08 with drive by wire throttle. Dealer tells me they
can't do anything to change the handlebars because of that. Has anybody put the Wideglide or other
mini apes on an 08 and if so are there cable issues?
Thanks
Paul
Yeah, did exactly that to a friends '08 Road Glide during Bike Week. There are threads detailing it here somewhere, but it's easy with no real issues. The TBW module pulls out of the stock bars after you release the slack under the fairing. The connector is inside the bars. Notch the WG bars to match & swap 'em. All the other cables, wires, etc. reach just fine.
Thanks for the info. I also have put the reach seat on and lowered the bike and installed a reverse. All do to short legs and arms. The only thing left is to get about 3"s back on the bars..
How far back did the bars go???
How can I tell which Bars would be best... is there a size and a pull back #??
I have seen a how to on moving the throttle. they say to cut 1' and to knotch the bar to match . It looks simple.
If you are short or talland want the bars to come "back to you," look at the Wild1 517's. I spent 3 solid hours of riding, Saturday. Felt like I was in my Lazy Boy. Didn't even need my backrest on......... Before I switched I triedstock bars and Wide Glide Bars. I had a burn in my shoulders and neck after about 45 minutes and wanted my back rest most every time.
This worked perfect for me. I think bars are like seats. You have to find the right one for you and the pain you have.
All I needed was a 4 inch longer front brake line. Some guys say their stock brake line worked.
Put Wild 1's 12.5" Apes (W502's) onmy 08 RG. Ordered from Namz (http://www.namzcustomcycleproducts.com/catalog.html)wire extensions. Time and patients is all it took me. The throttle has a 4" ish solid metal/plastic piece with about 6" of 4 strand wire attached to it. You have a small connector in your stock bars that you pull carefully out. That is not where you put the wire ext. in, they go in the fairing where the rest of the 28 wires go. I strongly recommmend a service book, the throttle wires change colors at that connector...yes complete stupid madness! Not sure why the moco did that???
