Default ok gurus, tell me the difference between these

#74419-96 is the air temp sensor that goes inside the fairing. #74419-96A is the new number. However, catch is if you look it up with Harley, both show as available. Usually when a part is suffixed, the original becomes obsolete and shows a supercession. A guy came in today and said his sensor was bad because his gauge showed 54 while his fairing cap was off and the bike was just sitting there in an 84 degree garage. I said who cares, those gauges suck anyway. Long story short, he has a 96 FLH and claims that the plug to the sensor only uses two pins, but the sensor has three pins in it. He wants to research it before he orders one to see what the difference is between the 96 and the 96A since for some reason neither is obsolete. Any thoughts? Anyone with an EVO glide that check their sensor to see if it has only two pins as opposed to three?

Dawg, if you find that HD has come out with a temp sensor that actually works, let us know. Planning on replacing mine with an oil temp gauge anyway.

AS long as there is stock, both will show. The -A however would be the latest and greatest. Or it may be for a different year model.
