Actual Diffrences?
Ok guys i am sure this has been beat down a million times. But i would like more advice and info by some more experienced guys. I am getting ready to buy a bike. I am stuck between the Streetglide and an Electra Glide classic. Are there any actual diffrences in the frames etc? Or is it just minor deals as the saddle bag guards suspension and the stripped look? I love the look and everthing of the streetglide but i want a detachable tour pak and all when my wife rides. When i am by myself i will have it stripped down. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
No difference in the frame, or motor... as you said, it is in the accessories, and suspension... For the money, I think the EG classic is a much better deal... It is cheaper to remove items, for the SG look, than it is to buy new parts for the EG classic features...
Under the cosmetics they are the same bike.
You can add to the street glide to make it more comfortable for your wife.
You can strip a Classic down and make it more like the Street Glide.
Both are great bikes.

I agree. You get all you want with the E-G Classic - then strip it down to a more sleek look for everyday use: solo saddle, low windscreen, etc.Yet you can mount the tourpack or a detachable backrest in about 5 min and swap back to the dual touring seat for Mama.
I run my E-G Classic this way and am very happy with it. It will cost you more to buy the tourpack and add it, etc than the price of the Classic.

I flip-flopped back and forth on this for a few weeks. Had an 06 Street Glide before and loved it. Well time came to get another batwing and was ready to pick up an EGC. To buy the EGC and make it what I want would involve buying a new front and rear fender (including paint), new saddle bag guards, front and rear bullet turn signal kit, fairing mount mirrors, detachable tour pak conversion and color matched saddle bag latches. With the SG all I have to do is buy a tour pak and docking hardware and passenger floorboards. I got the passing lamps thrown in on the deal. For me it was more beneficial to get the SG.
There are people who have turned their Ultras and EGC's to the SG look for alot cheaper. And they look damn nice. I chose to start with a canvas that was more suited to my tastes from the start.

I just had to make that decission myself a few weeks ago and I chose the SG. I don't believe you can remove stuff from the EG classsicwithout leaving holes in the front fender or buying replacement parts like the saddle bag latches (which are chrome on the EG classsicand painted to match the bike on the SG). I think the SG has a better look and I like the mirrors in the fairing and the licence plate down below the taillight where it belongs. And, yes, it does cost more money but I've been saving for my whole life for a Harley (I'm 57 and been riding jap bikes for over 40 years) and I bought what I wanted not whatwould save me a few bucks. I kept asking myself "Why does it cost more money for SG which has less stuff on it?". But it did and I paid it.
I also added:
Reach seat
Fairing lowers
Bat wing deflectors
6 1/2" smoked windshield
Stage 1 exhaust, air cleaner, computer chip, and dyno tuning (80hp, 92tq)
The bike is great!!!! I love it!!!! It rides good, keeps me warm and out of the wind, sounds great, and accelerates pretty well for a 750lb bike. And I can always add a tourpak if I want one.

Thanks guys. I love the sleek look of the street glide. But i think it is better in the long run to get the classic. Heck to get the tourpak and seat to makeit like the classic when the wife rides will be anywhere between a grand and 1500. Plus she will want floorboards. All of which the classic has. So i think i will come out better stripping the classic down to my liking. And i can buy the smooth fender for the front to give it the better streetglide look. I also like that the classic has the passing lamps on it too. I want to put aftermarket wheels on it later anyways so i will prob be buying a new front fender anyways. Thanks for the input guys! I am hoping to have my first on by my birthday in april. I am tired of riding my dads wide glide. Later!
