Default Engine Upgrade??? Cams? Bore?

Well, I'm thinking that I might... might want to do something to help my engine a bit. Most of my riding is around our area... hilly, country roads, but we will do some touring. I did the Stage 1 and it is nice, but when I ride 2 up, it is still a bit of chug going up hills, etc. I'm wondering what it's going to be like when we pack the saddlebags and the tourpack and go for a long weekend? At any rate, what would you suggest I do next? What would be the most cost effective way to get good power at the low end range... I'm not that interested in traveling over 65-70 and neither is my wife! But I'd really like to have some extra guts between 30-55... What do you think? My dealer is suggesting about a $4,000 rebuild which is out of the question... It's an 08 RKC. Thanks for any thoughts... Safe Riding!

Take a look at this: www.head-quarters-usa.com Their 103" touring kit would be right up your alley. Lots of riders on this forum use their kits. I believe they are better than the Screaming Eagle kits that Harley sells. But that;s just me!

I just did the stage 2 myself but haven't had a nice weather day to try her out. I did save some money with a Crane Fireball cam without the timing gear. Then I pressed the original timing gear off the OEM cam and pressed it on the new cam.

The HQ103 kit would really make your bike get up and go without losing reliability. For what the dealer is quoting you could get tthe HQ kit, a free flowing air filter setup and a freer flowing exhaust and still be money ahead. You would need some sort of tunerto handle the difference needed in timing and fuel delivery. If you are not ready to drop that kind of money into it yet, a simple step would be the HQ 500 cam, A/C and exhaust and tuner and still have gains you can really feel.

There is lots of good advice here, more than one right way for sure.
The point I'd like to make sure you're aware of is the best bangfor the buck won't have any parts or work from you local HD dealership (unless they do aftermarket engine mods).
In general, Screamin' Eagle performance is more money and will yield lower increasesthan a properly done aftermarket set up.
Normally "best bang for the buck" and "Screamin' Eagle" shouldn't be used in the same sentence.
