'08 Ultra
I need some advice. I have an '08 Ultra Classic with a race tuner, Rinehart slip ons, and a K&N air filter. I am concerned about the possibility of heat. With the race tuner installed, it eliminated the option of the back jug dropping out in slow traffic. Does anyone think that I should install some sort of cooling fan to help keep it cool? Or do not need to worry about it?I live in Texas, so it does get hot, and I ride it year around. I am using Royal Purple 20w-50. By the way. I love the bike!!
Our 96" Twin Cams will all run hot. That is the way they were designed believe it or not. Donny Peterson's book goes into detail on it.
You're on the right track to minimize any issues that may arise from the heat. I'm also running synthetic oil.
I recently added an oil cooler and an oil temp gauge. This way I can keep an eye on things.
Does the Ultra come with an oil cooler? Seems to me that the only bikes that do are the SE/CVO bikes.
One thing to avoid is long idle times when it is hot out. Even an oil cooler is useless then.

I just talked directly to K&N last week and they said there was no filter for the 08 touring bikes as of yet. Maybe he modified the one for the 07's. That can be done, you have to drill new holes and fill in the old ones.
The dealer I use also did a stage 1 air filter with K&N filter. The filter is the new blue one from what they tell me. I also put on the rush 2" baffles, and stage 1 download. My pipes have already started to turn ( the right side one ). I am taking to the dealer tomarrow to have them change them out. They said I got a bad pair. Ha Ha. I am going to install the fuel pack later this week to fix the problem. The bike is running to lean with only the stage 1 download and needs fuel management to take care of the issue. My dealer disagrees with me but all the research I have done had led me to this conclusion.

pobill19 I can't believe a dealer let you out the door with pipes and A/C and didn't install some type of fuel management system. Check your SE Stage 1 filter and you will see that it is not a K&N also. They aren't making them yet.
