Default ape hangers and windshields

I have 14 inch apes on my roadking and I have them pushed forward quite a bit for comfort and the windshield will not fit...just wondering if there is anyone else running apes that uses a windshield that has them pushed forward and cant put the windshield on... and what you guys do to make it fit..am I going to have to cut notches out of the windshield? or has someone made a little extention to the top mount of the windshield so the windshield stands more upright to clear the bars? thanks

I have heard of people cutting notches in the windshield.

I think your options are to (a) pull back the bars just enough or (b) cut notches in the windshield. Here is a link to Bandit's King Project where he cut notches in the shield to fit with apes...

Good luck!

You could also get a new windshield that mounts to the bars, such as the Windvest.

I have 02 heritage with 16 apes and windshield. I got longer bolts and threaded nuts between back of shield and front of brackets. works great

I have 18" apes, and have the same issue. I just pull the bars back when I ride with the shield. But, I rarely have the shield on, unless it is cold out. Another option is to get a lower shield. I was looking at it the other day. If I went with the height of the shield on the SE rk's, I think my bars would clear pushed forward... but, my bars are a bit taller than yours...

Here's a new one that nobody mentioned.

On my metric in the garage next to my SG, I put 13" mini apes last summer. Already was used to using the shield and didn't think that apes look good with any tilt back at all. Therefore, the shield was issues with everything from the front master cylinder to the clutch & brake handles.

What I did was go to the local True Value, get some long spacers, long allen head bolts and nuts. Put 2 1/4" spacers on the top bolts, 1 3/4" spacers on the middle bolts & 1 1/2" spacers on the bottoms bolts. Worked out pretty good. If you need pics, I can work on getting some tomorrow.

Check out my sig pic. I have 14" apes, and my shiedl fit fine. They are pushed forward a bit for comfort too. The easiest...if at all possible move the bars back, as long as it doen't compromise the comfort too much.
