ORIGINAL: ZPA

Big Harley Secret: 07 and later models are have such sofisticated systems that they can compensate up to 30% in either direction for various exhaust systems.

Translation: You don't have to do a damned thing when you change exhausts. Don't let anyone tell you differently.

I suppose you might get a couple of more horse power or technically it might breathe a little better if you put a tuner on or get a dyno done. But is it worth the expense??? You're going to spend hundreds of dollars in parts, hundreds of dollars on service, and loose about 40 miles on a tank of gas,.......and for what??

You'll be able to get to 60mph a second faster.
You're top speed (at which you'll never ride if you have a brain) will go up by about 10mph.

Don't let anyone tell you that you need to add anything, including a different aircleaner. If your dealer is telling you it is necessary, he either doesn't know or he just wants to sell you other parts and charge you big fees.

This is the truth. I've been running my Road King Custom since last September with a full bassani system. (no tuner, same air cleaner, not dyno). It runs great, sounds great, has all the power I'll ever use, and my gas mileage is the same as stock.

Be smart and spend your money on something that is necessary.
Sure,,,, Maybe,,,, IF YOU WAN TO BURN YOUR B*LLS OFF!

You can put on a pair of slip ons and pick up the sound and not have to do a fuel management. With that said you really wont be doing anything except making it louder. The bikes run lean, that is a fact. In order to overcome the lean condition and make the bike run cooler you need some type of fuel management to richen up the fuel mixture. And once you get to that point you may as well get a different air intake on the bike to take full advantage of the system and add a few ponies.

Exactly what I did. All stock except Rush slip-ons. No problemo!

Yeah, you can just change the exhaust to make it louder. Then the popping on decel occurs. After a little while, you will want to get rid of that, so you will need to richen it up. But now you want to get more air into the motor so you will have better pick up at a lower RPM without downshifting. Sounds like stage 1.

And my fuel mileage is avg 44 on the softail and 38 on the RK, neither really suffered any loss of mileage, but i'm not running them super rich or beating the heck out of them either. Ok, well, maybe the softail a little. LOL.

If all you change is the pipes you do not have to do anything if you do pipes and intake then you need to use a fuel manager or do a download.

He's right the EFI systemdoes compensate!
However if you want to run richer get a Xied from Nightrider and be done with it.
