Default Need straight answer on fuel mapping

I have a 99 Road Glide Fuel Injected. I put in a K & N oem replacement. I then got a smoking deal on black Vance and Hines long shots. I asked dealer about re-mapping the bike. I was told it was absolutely necessary and that I should not ride it until I got a fuel processor because I could damage my motor. Is that true? I have never had a FI bike before and this is all new to me.
I read a few threads and didn't see anything that said I damage the motor. Having read a few please no half page explanations about fuel air mixture. So if anyone has one for sale lmk

call a good tuner in your area and have him or her dyno the bike for you also ask what tuner they like to work with and buy that one. i would suggest a TTS Master tune. to answer your question with out tuning it and putting on pipes and free flow air cleaner you have now just add alot more air to your fuel mixture with out adding fuel witch it turns means it will run lean. your bike will love being tuned and after you ride it after tuning you will understand alot more

Sorry no simple straight forward answer to your question. Will it definately damage your motor, probably not. Will it possibly damage your motor, maybe. Will there be undesireable effects, probably, but it depends on your idea of what right looks like. As mentioned before, a less restrictive exhaust and intake will flow more air, without changing the factory fuel map, this creates a leaner AFR condition, resulting in more heat. A tuning device in the hands of a competent operator can correct the lean condition. Don't get wrapped up in the fact the bike is EFI, its just a precision digital carburator. Educate yourself about AFRs and decide what tuning condition you want to achieve or are willing to accept. Personally I am not on board with the run 'er rich crowd; I do my own tuning and I prefer the stock type near stoich condition in the cruise range, it is very responsive and very powerful, and I can't feel the 1-2% in power I gain by running rich, and any real improvement in temperature drop requires a extreemly rich condition that you will see in economy. I just want to be real clear that I'm not saying everyone running rich is wrong, I simply chose a different path. I can't say that you "need" a tuner, but from my observations I feel confident in recommending that you should probably do something to modify your map. Hope that wasn't too long or too vague, good luck.

I'm not familiar with the TTS mentioned above, but after a quick look at their website, I'm not sure it would be applicable to a MM Injection System bike without other ecm upgrades.

On my '99 I used the Power Commander III, and ordered it from Fuelmoto. Their service was great, and installing it was easy. It came preloaded with a map based on what I had done to the bike, and it was very close.

It wouldn't make much sense (IMHO) to make the changes to the bike, and not "unlock" the added benefits with a proper tune anyway.

If you go the Fuelmoto route with a Power Commander or possibly a Powervision (not sure if Powervision works on the 99's)......They will support you with maps for the upgrades you add.

They have great customer service and know what they are doing.

definitely good information. I plan on getting one in the next week or so, just thought the dealer was trying to scare me into spending more money with them and having them map it. When I read on the internet most are pretty easy to install and tune yourself.
Thanks
Billy
