Default oil temperature gauge

i have been reading a lot of threads on oil temp. gauges. i was wondering if anyone has come across a unit that simply screws to the oil dipstick and has a long wire that will reach the handle bar area and have the readout mounted there. i hate to add things to my bike were i have to mess with electrical stuff (hd warranty!!!!!). i know they have them for the dipstick area only, but that is not what i want. i want somthing i can read while driving. these unit will be self-contained battery operated (just like those oven thermometers).

I believe Harley makes one that will fit where the air temp guage is,which is useless IMO. I'm probably wrong think its a oil pressure gauge but at any case one could be put there. With no harm to the warranty I would think.

Harley sells a dipstick that has electronic readout on the cap. I haven't heard anything good about it. just complaints.

harley sells one that goes in the faring like meatball said earlier. get ride of the air temp it's useless. the wire running up from below would look tacky imo, and liable to get yanked loose or burnt wire .

Trust me, the oil dipstick temp gauge is a piece of "crap". Mine did not even last a year before it quite working properly. Wasted money. I have been waiting on the fairing mounted gauge version for a few months now. I will replace the air temp gauge with this one when I get it in. Wish I would have done this back when I had a fairing mounted version in my hand at the stealership.

The wiring harness for the oil temp gauge can be run either under the fuel tank or under the chrome fuel tank trim piece. Common sense says to wire tie the harness to the frame, etc so it doesn't move around or touch a hot object.

And NO, installing it will not void your warranty, contrary to what some dealers may tell you....

The installation of a new oil temperature gauge is so easy, I wouldn't fuss with anything else. The new oil temp kit has the brass fitting and sensor that screws into the oil pan. The new harness runs down the right side of the frame so you no longer have to remove the gas tank. The harness installation is so clean that I can barely see it.

Whether install it yourself or have the stealer do the job, the investment is well worth it.

I bought the ''in the hole'' oil temp gauge18 mos ago. At 12 mos it quit giving me the oil level. It still gives me the oil temp. I would save my money and not buy either guage or an oil cooler. My oil temp has never gotten above 265 deg on the hottest day and a major traffic jam. This with the 103'' build. I live in central Fl and can discuss heat with you. Take a trip and use the money for rooms and food.
