Default I-Pod ?????????

I have an I-Pod Nano, now about three years old. Do the batteries lose their ability to take a charge because mine only seems to be able to play for about 4 hours.

Also, When hooked up to my HK stereo I can get good volume, but am I better off driving volume from the stereo vs the Nano to save battery power?? Getting ready for an iron butt run and want to have tunes for as long as possible.

thanks for your help...

I consulted an expert, my 15 yr old daughter, and she said that IPods lose there ability to charge after a few years. sounds like your almost ready for a new one. Good luck on your ride!

Ditto - they lose their re-charge ability. Maybe invest in a new one, or I believe Radio Shack sells a high capacity battery pack for them. I know they have them for the larger ones, not sure if they have them for the Nano's. I used to have one for the Larger one and that would last like 18 hours on a single charge and that unit was re-chargable. Safe journey on the iron butt bro.

Well the 15 year old is right. They do loose there ability to charge. However they can replace the battery, you can send it back and have the battery replaced. It would take a couple weeks. Check the price vs, buying a new one. The only difference between old and new is disk space, really. Sure there are bells and whistles, but not anything else.

Hope that helps a little.

Things to extend battery....turn off the Equalizer it takes up iPod juice. Volume i typically keep my iPod nano at is about 75%, anything more and i tend to hear distortion. If you've got an '06 or later (and your sig. says '07) why not burn several MP3 CDs? Get about 7 hours of music per CD a few should get you through the 24 ride.

just my 2 cents

I do agree with the previous comments. iPod are known for having a short battery life. I think they get roughly 1000 charges or so...please don't quote me on this it is an estimate.

There are places who will replace the internal battery for about 45$

Best way to explain is to point you into the direction of a tutorial:

Let me know if this helps.

If it works, it's gonna be REALLY helpful. I'm going on a two week run to Texas from Ohio and numerous points in between. I'll be making some discs for the trip, great link!

Go to radio shack and buy the 12Volt Maxell adapter for the iPod and plug it into the lighter outlet. It also comes with a small hand held remote that you can velcro to the bars so the controls are at your finger tips. Works great! Here's a link to maxell for accessories.

Steve,

Since you have an I-pod, you can go to your I-tunes and click on EDIT> preferences> ADVANCED> importing> on import using select MP3>
then go to BURNING> disc format> MP3

At top under VIEW> then VIEW OPTIONS> make sure to check KIND. That will show in library that the song is MPEG or protected AAC.

In your library you select all songs, right click and select convert all to MP3. As long as your library has MP3's it will burn in that format.

I have several MP3 cd's that I made and they each contain about 9 hours of music=130 + songs. Makes the long rides more enjoyable.

Good Luck.
