Replacement Gauges/Speakers
 \\;\\\\\\; \\;\\\\\\; \\;\\\\\\; I am looking to upgrade My Gauges and Speakers on My 08 Electra Glide Classic and would like to know how hard it is to take the Fairing apart to do this. Have any of you done this? I have the Aluminum Face Gauges and want to put Hog Tunes Speakers in place of Stock Speakers.
I just had this done on my 08 street glide had the air temp swaped out for \\;the oil temp, painted inner fairing \\;and hawg wired speakers put in. I will never take if back to a dealer I think I could have done better speedo gauge is crooked they frogot the gromet that goes over the clutch cable and the small screws on the bottom of the \\;fairing. This is the second time i have taken it to the dealer 1st to have the detachable backrest and they didnt titen the the bolts that hold quick clips for the saddle bags came \\;close to losing one. I will be doing all other work. theres always people out there that will help you. \\; \\; \\; \\; \\; \ \; \\; \\;
Outer faring removal is extremely simple, 7 screws, 1 headlight plug and it’s off. It’s easy access to all gauges and speakers. This exposes the backside of the inner fairing and is as far as you'll need to go for speaker and gauge upgrades. You already know you want to upgrade speakers to Hog tunes, not a bad choice. They’ll perform very well for you and are certainly a good upgrade. Now for the gauges, I don’t know of too many options other then changing the face color. There is a complete kit available from Dakota Digital for the 08 Dressers. Not cheap but very cool if you’re looking to go “Ultra†modern on your 08 EGC. Don’t know of any reviews here on the forum. Here is a link to DD. If you don't already have a service manual for the 08 Touring model, get one. They're worth the $60-$70 bucks MoCo takes us for.[sm=signs003.gif]

It is an easy swap. One thing that I would check is that you have gauges for the 08. They also made these gauges for older models that look the same but will not work with your 08. I know this from buying a set of 08 gauges (spun alum. face) and putting them in my 07. The gauges part numbers should end in 08. If they end in 04 don't install them and get the newer ones. They look good at night with the orange lights!

The screws removed are T27 Torx which is an odd size omitted from many socket sets.

There are a lot \\; of connectors to be unplugged from the current gauges and plugged into the new gauges so digital pics and/or labeling the connectors is a good idea.

You can probably do the job without the Service Manual, but I did mine (in conjunction with installing a painted inner fairing) using the SM and was glad to have it. \\;

The indicator light connector(s) in the speedo and/or tach are different from the other connectors IIRC and the SM was helpful to me in knowing how to disconnect it correctly.
