oil drip from intake
Just returned home from sturgis yesterday after about 2400 miles & 250 to go I noticed some oil dripping from my filter onto my bags. I've got a Arlen Ness big sucker on it? Any ideas? Thanks Troy
Mine does same thing with open air cleaner (k&n) when on highway. Never did it with stock air cleaner, even switched back to stock for a couple thousand miles...stayed dry. Doesn't lose enough oil to matter, just have to wipe bags.
crankcase breathes into the air cleaner (so any oil vapor is sucked in and burned). every bike I've had with this set up, on occassion, would spray a bit of oil out of the air cleaner. my carb'd FLHT, with the 42mm Mikuni on it - if running high rpm for long period (i.e 85 mph for an hour) - the Mikuni would spray fuel out the carb, mix with the filter oil, and spray onto my leg and saddlebag.
Mine started doing it sometime after my first service. First noticed it after like a 2 hr ride from Ocean City to the DC area. Dealer said some bikes pump more oil up than others. They then proceeded to bore out my breather bolts (AN Big Sucker) which was suppose to help out. Seems like it did until I was low on oil, I added a quart of oil them wham, it started doing it with more frequency. I then proceeded to perform an oil change and to see what happened I only put 2.5 quarts back in. Rode it for about 5 miles and oil was all over the right side and the bag. I filled it to the correct level (so I could continue to ride between dlr visit) and made an appointment with the dealer (2 weeks out). Took it in and they realigned the oil pump, haven't really rode it since, so I'm not sure if it really worked or not. I will say between the test ride and my ride home right side stayed clean.
