Makes sense to me then to just by the gears. Thanks.

I checked this out before I bought just the gears. It is another 4 hours of labor to do the whole tranmission. I was able to sell my gears on ebay for $400 so I was happy.

has anyone ever tried to change the sprocket sizes? Are there different rear HD Factory pulleys that will bolt on or does anyone make an aftermarket?

(On my ZRX I want to go to an 18 tooth front to get lower RPM's at my normal 85 mph cruising speed. The bike has an annoying buzz at the RPM that gives that speed. Many ZRX owners go down a tooth in the front to get more oooomph out of it. Instant wheelie machine with that change.)

Another lower cost alternative is..
I'm considering installing an Andrews 34 Tooth Trans pulley rather than a 6 speed. I've done the same on other bikes with great success. The pulley costs around 170. The labor to completely remove the primary and install it is a few hours I hear. No need to change out the belt either. The gear ratio would be 2.96 vice 3.15 which is almost the same as the 6 speed they are putting in the Dynas. The only draw back is that you might loose a little low end grunt, but mine has more than enough.... it's highway crusing that I enjoy the most....

something to think about....

Bluez,

The six speed is NOT cost effective! The savings in fuel won't make up for the price. BUT, you will get more range out of a tank of fuel and that's one benifits, the other is that it really smooths out the ride on the hiway. It's not really worth the $2800-$3000 dollar investment but I'm gald I did it and would do it again.

DC.

I agree with you 100%. Too expensive and not that much payback but damn I love it at highway speeds. The motor sounds relaxed and not looking for another gear.

I've toyed with the idea of a six speed, but I would want to do something else at the same time to get the HP up to go with it.

At 70 MPH what RPM are you guys with the 6 speed trans getting? With my 05 Road Glide I'm turning about 3000 RPM in 5th a 70 MPH. Just wondering how much it will go down.
