The movement will depend upon which bracket broken. The vertical or the horizontal. If vertical, it will move up and down pretty easy if you grab it the faring from the front. I believe it will move side to side if the horizontal is broken.

Default Warning!! Just found out that broken mounts kills the h/k stereo

YEAH MOST OF YOU GUYS ARE IN THE SAME BOAT AS ME BUT MINE WENT SO LONG THAT IT KILLED MY HARMAN KARDON CD PLAYER. IT HAS A MIND OF IT'S OWN NOW AND TURNS ON ALL THE TIME BUT I LOST SOUND. AND IF I TURN IT(HANDLEBARS) TO THE RIGHT IT TURNS ON AND SOUND COMES OUT 7 OUT OF 10 TIMES OF POWERING UP. I'M AN MMI GRAD AND I SHOOK ALL THE WIRES DOWN/CLEANED AND GREASED THE PLUG WITH DIALECTIC GREASE/CHECKED THE CONNECTORS AND COULDN'T FIND THE PROBLEM AT HAND WHEN I HAD NO SOUND. SO I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT IS VERY,I REPEAT VERY, COMMON FOR BROKEN BRAKETS TO JUST MURDER THE STEREO. I BOUGHT MINE WITH A SALVAGED TITLE SO THE WARRANTY DO SQUAT FOR ME FROM THE STAND POINT OF MOTOR PARTS FROM HD. BUT THE GOOD NEWS IS MY DEALER WITH I HAVE A EXCELLENT BOND WITH TOLD ME THAT THE HK STEREOS WERE SO PROBLEMATIC THAT HD DOESN'T DEAL WITH WARRANTY ISSUES THAT THEY ARE NOW SENT TO THE MANUFACTURER. SO I MIGHT GET A REFURBED RADIO OUT OF THIS DEAL TOO. I'LL KEEP YOU POSTED. AND IF I DON'T OH WELL I'LL GO TO www.HAWG-WIRED.COM AND GET THE INSTALL KIT FOR A SONY THAT YOU CAN USE YOUR CURRENT RADIO CONTROLS WITH. BEATS SPENDING TONS OF MONEY FOR MORE TROUBLED PARTS. DON'T GET ME WRONG I'M IN LOVE WITH MY CUSTOM STREET GLIDE BUT I CAN'T WAIT TO FINISH MY HONDA OLD SCHOOL CHOP. VERY LITTLE ELECTRICAL AND AND A KICKASS SCOOT FOR UNDER $2000!

Smile Broken brackets

Pulled the front farring to day and found all four brackets broken.
Went to dealer for a price small bracket 16.00$ each Vertical bracket 68.00$ each
Aprox 170.00$ with 10% discount. for all four brackets.
Went back home and got the welder out, took some time but they are now repaired. Welded a "L" bracket to the top for extra strength painted it black and will have it back together tomorrow just in time for the RAINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN. Boy did it feel good to save 170.00$ Now I can buy more CHROMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

I just had my 2008 Street Glide repaired for the same problem with the radio. It would re-boot every couple of minutes. The tech found a couple of broken wires in the main harnes that supplies the stereo. His repair was to splice in new wire, solder and shrink tube. No problems with the stereo in about 900 klm since the repair.

On the other hand, the fairing is shaking big time as of yesterday. I think I may have broken fairing mounts now.

Same with me, Have 22000 miles and the inner fairing supports broke at the 90 degree bend where it bolts to the top off the inner fairing. To the right and left of the speedo and tach. Bought (2) 90 degree angle brackets from farm and fleet and (4) 1/4 inch 20 thread allen head bolts and locker nuts and drilled into the support. $4.35 later and 500 miles and everythng is looking good.

It was posted here a couple of days ago that HD has redesigned these brackets. The poster put up a couple of pics of the new and old brackets.

I did a write-up on this here and my fix on the vertical brackets is still holding well. I don't have a fix for the horizontal brackets, but they are cheap and easy to replace. There is a guy who sporadically offers a SS version of the horizontals on Harley Tech Talk forum, but you can't just order these from him since he makes a batch every so often and offers them for sale. At least in the past it was like this.

Watch out folks, a stiffer bracket sounds great, but it may transfer the load into another component which will then break. i'd suggest sticking iwth the new HD component which should be tested thru vib and shake test to insure they don't damage something else.
