Default mpg/tmax ?

can't seem to get better than 38 mpg out of tmax. afr set at 14.3 in cruise range 13.8 at idle and 13.0 at wot. auto tune is turned off and running in closed loop. has anyone gotten better mpg out of theirs? i know of some people who with v&h fuel pack that are getting 43-50 mpg, maybee that is due to the stock ecm i hear it automaticly adjusts the timing if anyone has any input it would be greatly appreciated. i would hate to have to change to a fuelpak since the tmax can actually be adjusted but to be honest i have rode bikes with fuelpak and there is really no noticeable difference in power. just better mpg.

If you have the auto tune off, how is it in closed loop? Wouldn't it be in open loop?
I adjusted my Tmax pretty close to what you did. I am consistently getting 43 mpg. Low of 38 when hammering it with a high of 48 just touring. But mostly 43.

actually from what i understand it can be in closed loop without the auto tune turned on, tmax told me that it will read directly from the afr pages at rpm throttle position, i keep the closed loop box checked and the auto tune afr box un checked. from the way it was explained to me the auto tune will set the target afr across all the rpm ranges, for example say it's set at 13.0 then it will eventually retune all afr map pages to 13.0 over a period of time.

Are you guys using a basic map with T-max or do you have them dyno'd. Talking to a guy at Old Glory H-D, he said I would see a decrease in mpg with T-max and stage 1
setup.

i am using map 403 cuz the bike has alot less decel pop due to the timing settings but i have adjusted my afr map pages to try and get better mpg. the bike runs good i'm just looking for a little better mpg. if anyone has any suggestions i am open to them.

No dyno. All EFI systems work off of some kind of base map. I am not sure if getting the maximum benefit out of a Tmax would be possible without some knowledge of how and what EFI does. Most systems are open loop, (Newer HD run narrow band @s to maintain AFs during cruse and idle only). When you dial in a custom map, the engine runs off of that, period! On a Tmax or similar closed loop system, the wide band O2 sensors maintain the AF ratios within the map or custom map (Dyno tune or playing making your own map) If you have no experience with or dont want to learn, I would suggest some other kind of tuner with a dyno tune.

403 is a map for a FXD 06-07 W/96 motor. How did you end up with that on an ultra?

yes you are correct, due to excessive decel pop i tried this map 403 i read about it on another forum the good results they were having. all i had to do was change my speedo cal and final gear drive ratio numbers to get it to work with my ultra. i told the guys at zippers and they said that it was good to try different maps and that i did it correctly. i noticed on your sig that you got an 02 they have 8 deg injectors that may be why you get better fuel mileage the 07 has 25 deg injectors. i got a friend who had his 8's changed to 25's and lost some mpg. also if you look at the timing on map 403 it's different than alot of other maps i think that aids in alot less decel pop i rarely get decel pop now and i dont use the decel pop eliminator at all. the bike pulls alot better also, if i could just get some more mpg out of it.

How far out into the throttle position did you carry your "cruise" afr's? I am getting about 40 mpg on my Ultra with cruise afr's set at 14.189.

hi stro1965, im still using map 403 it is still workin good for me, but i was hoping some one with some new tricks on the tmax would pop in here like some young computer slash bike genious lol. but here is my afr tables cruise range. From 0 deg throttle position to 14.8 tps(idle range) iam at afr 13.8, then at tps 20 deg to 34.28 deg (cruise range) my afr is set at 14.294 , then it gradually slopes to 13.0 afr.
