Default Running rich

1999 Road King Stanard, just purchased from private party in Sacramento elevation 69ft. Brought bike home to Oregon elevation 1000ft. the bike is running really rich. Burn your eyes rich. It has a thunder slide carb kit installed with Bartell slash cut slip ons. No other mods. What are my problems and how do I fix them.

Thanks,
Jim

Pull off the carb, and go down a size or two on the main jet, and or move the E clip on the top of the needle jet up a groove. Then read the plugs.....and see what you got. If its all good your done....if not start over.

while your doing that....
Pull off the vacuum hose that runs from the fuel petcock to the back of the carb.
look to see if the hose has any gas in it ,if so the diaphragm in the fuel petcock has ripped or dried out and allowing gas to suck directly in to the intake manifold. This also will cause a rich condition even at a idle.

If you can afford it, pull all of the aftermarket carb stuff off and go back to the OEM fuel system. My '03 was factory stock and it ran fine and got great MPG.

Good luck,
