Rpm?
I recently got my first Harley, an '07 FLHT Standard. I am not sure as to what RPM is good at cruising speed. I read in another post that 6th gear at 60mph was lugging the engine. My previous v-twin was a '94 1500 Vulcan which was only a four speed so lugging the engine was never an issue as it was geared quite low. I would appreciate some input so I don't harm the engine/transmission.

Cruising on the highway I like to keep it between 2500 and 3000 rpm. I will run in 6th at 65 or so if I'm on flat, open highway, but if there are much of any hills I stay in 5th until over 70. Also when passing I almost always downshift to 5th for more power rather than opening the throttle all the way to try go around at lower RPMs in 6th.
Mine is a 5 speed so at 70 I am pulling around 3000 RPM. Coming from a VTX those are low RPM and feel just right to me. Around town I keep RPM no less that 2000 regardless of gear and change gears between 2500 and 3000 depending on the road. That might be completely wrong but it feels right to me. I have not checked the manual in quite some time but I think the manual can help here.

Side note: Windup08, I don't know what it is but you have the best looking copper top I have seen. Nice bike.

I like to cruise around 2000 to 2500 rpm. I use 4th gear for 45 mph limit, 5th gear for 55 mph limit and it helps me to keep close to the speed limits. My bike pulls good from 1500 rpm and up.
