Default 10K Service?

My stealer wants like $450 for the 10K service on my 05 Bagger. Does anyone know what is so special about the 10K? Like almost $200 more than the 5k service.

Look in your owners manual and you will see what all it entails....

Or you can save yourself a few bucks, purchase the manual, a few specialty tools, and all of the fluids, lubes, gaskets, seals, etc... amd do it yourself... Your call...

I'm about 1k miles away from it right now. The list of things checked/adjusted is pretty extensive. The dealership will charge you for adjustments and such, even if they are not needed (chain and belt tension, etc.) I'm going to travel about two hours north to a small shop that does really good work but charges you only for the work performed.

$400 is cheap. They do pretty much disassemble most of the bike or at least they are supposed to. Who knows what they really do? I think the labor charge is 6 hours then parts on top of that?

I have the shop manual and from what I read in the service table, the only difference on the 10K vs the 5K is that they change the spark plugs. i.e. my point - don't understand why such a cost difference. UNLESS they really are not doing what is called for in the 5K and actually do it on the 10K. Like said, who really knows.

THEY must be using a different manual than the one I have. What other info/guidance do the dealerships have to go by?

Get a manual and do it yourself. I just did and it was no problem. Saved enough money to pay for the manual as well as some tools and the Craftsman bike lift. It was easy.....

I am reading the service manual and the 10,000 mile is the 5,000 mile with:
Replace Spark plugs
Inspect Winshield bushings
Critical fastners - Check tightness
Inspect Engine mounts and stabilizer links

It is double the price.

I have 10,000 on my RK.
