Backrest, bars, floorboards, and highway bars...Once you've got the right ones, you can easily go your hour and a half. I too am kind of a tank to tank guy, but most of the guys I ride with are lookin' to stop in about 90 minutes as well. Solo, it's tank to tank fill ups, and cover the highway.... Last long trip was from Rapid City, SD, to Florence, MT in one day. That's about 728 miles on the two laners we took. So you can easily do your 400 miler in 8-9 hours with breaks, food, and gas stops. Enjoy.

I think we're gonna try to catch a nice day and try to put a couple hundred miles on it to see how we do. Late November weather may not cooperate too much with us though.
Slacker, You live in Mississippi, I live in Alabama, I've never seen it to cold to ride here. Some of these guys on here don't won't to see your crocodile tears. They can't see thru their own.

Ohh it's not the temperatures that hold us back it's the rain. Here in Memphis if it starts raining it will rain for at least three days. That coupled with the expert drivers in the metro area leads to bad situations. We got out Sunday and the high was only 45. I was just hoping for a rain free weekend to stretch her legs out a little.

Of course you're the only one that can answer your question, but it sounds like you won't have much problem adding 15 minutes to your saddle time. If you think about it you did pretty well on the trip you described. I use the 50 mph average method for planning trips whether they're in a car or on a bike. Your trip was right on that figure. It's only for planning since you can do better at interstate speeds, but worse on city streets & figuring rest/gas/food/sightseeing stops. The more comfortable bike will extend your saddle time, but it won't do much for road or traffic conditions.

A buddy and I did 16 hours in the saddle only stop to fill up and only long enough to fill up. And it was no problem at all. Him a 07 ultra me a 96 standard. I have also done 16 hours on a honda shadow and could not even move the next morning and my standard I could go longer.

Good pick on the seat. Just be sure to keep the air shocks properly pumped up and your back should tolerate things well. Although you may want to get a backrest for yourself. I generally ride gas tank to gas tank on my SG.

We traveled two lane as much as possible on the trip. The average speed limit was 55mph except passing through small towns. It just seems after the initial 1-15 minutes the longest the OL could hold out was about 45 minutes. I feel I could do 2 hrs+ or tank to tank by myself. The return trip was even worse than the going trip. I guess we were both tired and worn out coming home and it didn't help any. The stopping frequency increased and the stop time also increased. Ohh well when we go to Mobile we'll leave early that morning and have all day to get there....

1 to 1.5 hours should be no problems at all. We also go tank to tank sometimes also.
