Hey all, I am Slacker's wife. We do have a sundowner seat and back rest for me. I also do not have a 200 mile bladder. In fact, he says I can pee on demand and I really think he is right! LOL
Slacker,
If you have any problems with the seat, send it to Mean city. They did my wifes and she can ride forever now even with her back problem. Hope this helps.
Reading these posts makes me laugh. I still like to break every hour, hour and a half tops, be it in a cage or my bike. I wrecked my back riding in my (gasp) Toyota Sequoia from Richland to the coast this past weekend. Six plus hours in a cage that has supposedly comfortable seats. I know, should have bought American....I love the stock seat and back rest on my UC but still want to jump off for a few minutes every hour or so.
Half way there with the Sundowner. Pop for the rider's backrest and you'll be good to go a 100 miles between stops easily. I have the non-adjustable and it works just fine.
At 70mph you're looking at about 5.75 hrs riding time. Add in 2 breaks/ gas stops each 15 minutes long and one 30 minute lunch break and the trip ends up being just under 7 hrs total. The faster you go the less the time obviously.
The key is to stop, check the current time then agree with the Mrs. that you will both be back on the bike at X time.
From my experience riding with various groups a lot of time can be wasted at stops just because no one is there to say "Let's roll" until more than a few minutes of road time are wasted.
If you can map out the route with mileage and time frames in advance it helps to keep you on schedule if time is indeed a factor.
I suggest an Ipod/ MP3 player as well for tunes between towns unless you already have XM or Sirius.
+1 on the backrest. It will make a world of difference on your back. With something supporting my back I am now able to a whole tank without stopping and I don't even have a real backrest. I just put the duffel bag on the pillion seat and lean against it on longer trips.
Comparing the Street Bob ride to the SG is like comparing apples to oranges. The ride is like night and day in the SG's favor. I had a Sundowner seat and thought it was great, then I got a Mustang and think it is even more comfortable than the Sundowner. With that said I think you and he misses will be just fine. An hour and a half should be no big deal.
Have fun and ride safe.
bought a sundowner seat for my 09 RK nice seat, but only half as good as the mustang seat i had on my 2000 RK at 61 we can still make those 500 mile a day runs at least every other day on a long trip say around texarkana to dalhart heading to colorado.just remember in new mexico there are more K BOBS than there are gas stations

Peeing on demand is easy - it's not demanding to pee that's hard!
Well I'm a tank to tank kind of guy...Hell I get mad sometimes when the fuel light comes and I'm in the groove...With the right setup you will be able to knock down some good miles...Keep the stops short...gas, bathroom breaks then go...
