Default You did what?????????

Alright, here’s the deal,

Let’s hear your most painful damaged bike story. Have you ever had a bike stolen, crashed, borrowed, run over etc. If so lets hear the story and even see pictures if you got em. To sweeten the pot, on June 5th, 2009 I am going to pick the best story and/or photo and give away a free Rack with Big Horn kit (see photo below) for storing your detachable accessories. I may not be able to help you with your damaged ride, but I can help you protect a few of your accessories.

I fell over on an electric Razor scooter and broke my leg, never went to to the Dr and didn't have any damage to the scooter. Does that count?

I don't need no rack but you got bullets or something?????

Or did I miss something? How U gonna protect a FEW of my accessories? Leave tham in the garage????

Just ask'in.....

About 3 months ago I was on my first trip out to the Rock Store in LA. While cruising down Mulholland drive on my 3 week old 1300 mile Road Glide, I got rear ended by a guy on a BMW 650 X-Country super moto motorcycle. I ruptured my spleen and had internal bleeding and some road rash. The surgeon decided not to remove my spleen (class 3 damage on a scale of 5) and monitor bleeding as it had stopped on its own as of the time of my first CAT scan. For the next 5 days I wasn't allowed to move, eat or drink anything in case I had to go into emergency surgery to remove my spleen if I started to bleed again. The Folly Catheter wasn't any fun as I couldn't get up to use the bathroom either. At this point I experienced the worst pain I have ever felt in my life. I was on self administered Morphine at a 5 minute interval that did nothing more than make the pain bearable. Breathing made me cry, trying to roll from my back to my side was the worst thing I have ever experienced. After I was released from the hospital I could bearly walk, had no energy and had lost 15lbs. I wasn't allowed to pick up or hold my son for 2 months because if he kicked or hit me, he could have caused my spleen to bleed again. I got 3 weeks off of work because of it. To top all this off, the guy who hit me had state minimum insurance, a total of 15K a person and 20K an accident. So when this is all said and done, my bike had over 7500 in damage (not totaled) and I will only get about 6K from his insurance for my injuries. It will do me no good to sue him as he has no assets like a house or other insurance. Even if I did sue him and win, he would just claim bankruptcy and never pay me a dime. But I lived, my bike is fixed and I still ride. How is that for a story?

My wife just got done with a rider course two years ago. I was proud of her for taking the time to do it and was very glad for her to be a rider. She got home and I gave her my bike. Then a 97 Dyna Wide glide. She was very happy got on and rode it up the street. As she was turning around she got too slow -- panicked -- put her foot down, could not hold the bike up and laid it down.
After getting the bike set straight, readjusting the foot pegs and assessing the damaged primary cover, I told her to get back on. She rode like a pro.
Since then she has yet to lay either of her bikes down. Fish tailed through a gravel corner ran on the shoulder etc. She is a real trooper I'm proud of her.
BUT, she still owes me a new primary cover.... even though I got rid of the bike this spring. There are still some private pay backs but that is not for this forum to hear about.

Ok here go's..
Back in the early 70's I was on a Kawasaki KZ 1000 LTD. A friend at the time was on KZ 650, riding back home from Lake Geneva Wis. late at night. I stop at an intersection in the country waiting on him. He came alright, at about 70MPH he nail's me on the left side of the bike and snaps my leg like a twig between the case and the highway peg. He ends up in the field about 100yrds away and the gal with him who was a cheerleader at the time lost both kneecaps. He walked away. Both bikes were totaled. And not just from the total of repairs, these things were twisted and pretty scary to see after I got fixed up to be able to go see um. And the one ( many of em here ) lesson to learn, he was riding a bike without insurance and was just taking the bike out for a day of test riding as he was going to buy it from another guy who had just got the bike out of storage.

I was riding along the first trip out for the season last April. April 4th to be exact, when a rickity old dodge caravan slammed on the brakes as hard as she could to turn into the hardware store. We are talking slamming on the brakes now on a state highway. I don't know what bolt was loose with her but that is the only reason I can see slamming on the brakes at 55 mph on a highway. Well I slammed on mine fully loaded on a street glide and starting fish tailing right into the back of her van. Well Dodge it I did not and as the bike hit I went flying but my leg stayed in place pinned by the mangled floorboard and crash bar. When I finally got thrown the bone was sticking out of the back of my leg, and the rest of my leg was at a 45 degree angle to my femur. It took 2 hours of surgery and 4 pins with a nice aerospace aluminum rod to hold it all together. Over a year later I dont have feeling in my foot but you are damn sure I am riding again. As a matter of fact I bought a bike 2 months after the accident to park in the garage as a motivator to get walking again and get on 2 wheels. Here are some pictures of my 07:

I have a friend that wanted my '65 Mustang and I wanted his FXDWG. Before the deal was made, I brought the bike home to try it out for the weekend. I parked it in a shed with a Craftsman chipper shredder. A buddy of mine came over and wanted to hear the bike so I turned on the ignition switch and hit the starter button. The bike lurched under the shredder bending the fender and gouging the paint to bare metal about an inch long. My statement was " I have bought the bike now."

Lesson learned! Never start the bike assuming it is in neutral and always squeeze the clutch. None of my other bikes I owned would start in gear and/or unless the clutch was squeezed.

Here's my story. It's 1981, Miam,i Florida, I have a 1981 Honda CB 400, about 2-3 months old. I ride to the place where they are having that professional athlete competion series that was on ABC-TV. can't remember the name. After the competition I start heading back to my bike where all the other bikes were parked, except I could not find my bike. It was stolen. I was trying to figure out why my bike was stolen, when there were tons of bikes, nicer then mine. I searched my pockets to realize I must have left the keys in the ignition. Easy pickins, wouldn't you say? They got my helmet too.
I called the police and filed my report and with no insurance, I was SOL.
The next weekend I bought a 81 Honda CB 750.
About a month later I get a call from Miami PD that they found my bike at it is in the impound lot. I went to get it and it was still in good shape. Only thing wrong was the rear tire was bald and they removed the baffles. The cops saw the bike parked on the street, ran the numbers and came up stolen. The bike was parked on the street, like any other bike was parked. I took care of all necessary paper work and I took the bike back to the USCG Base. Now this is where it gets better. A few days later I hear that a cop came on base to get some questions answered why "his" bike is now my bike. The Master-at-Arms told the cop that my bike was stolen. The cop realized that he bought a stolen bike and high tailed it out of there. What I also did was leave my title on the bike, so the the thief just signed the title over to the cop and the cop thought he had the "deal of the century". So in a nutshell, a cop bought a "hot" bike and I ended up with two bikes.

Now it's 1983, I'm stationed in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan. I'm going home after work, through an intersection where traffic on the right and left have stop signs. A yellow Honda Civic makes the "left turn" and I end up yelling "oh sheet" and I hit her broadside. I go over the hood of her car hitting the windshield with my right arm against my ribs and land flat on my back. The lady driver had her 4 kids in the car, they all were screaming and crying and thought I was dead I sat up spit some blood and next thing I saw was the ambulance and crew. I ended up breaking some ribs with other minor scrapes and bruises. I got a ticket for having no insurance and the lady was a fault and I forget what she was ticketed for. I never got a phone call or card or anything from her, come to find out she was a cops wife and I'm sure he told her to keep quiet in case I sued her ***. I never did cuz I was too young and foolish. My bike was totaled as was her car. 25 years later.........I bought a 09 Road King Classic. I am much older and smarter.......just hope there ther are no more "stories"
