09 FLHTCU Primary oil change and service
I need to change the primary fluid and do the service required for my 1k service. My understanding is that the primary chain is automatically adjusted on the 09? Also do I need to adjust the clutch if it seems to be ok?
I'm going to be making a long trip soon and want everything to be ok.
Thanks
Everette

The service manual tells you what to do at each service interval. I would do what it says.

yes the primary chain has an auto adjuster.
personally I do not adjust the clutch basket at every service interval. In fact I rarely do, because is easier to do when the bike is cold and I prefer to change fluids when its warmed up. I do check and adjust the free play at the handle bar if needed
It takes about 15 minutes to adjust the clutch, and I do it when it feels like it needs it.

For my 1k I planned my service for Sunday AM. Saturday I rode, and at the end of the day I pulled in and opened all three holes, along with the inspection cover. Once things were drained I put the inspection cover back on finger tight and called it a day. Next morning I pulled the inspection cover, adjusted the clutch, and filled all three holes and went on with the rest of the service. It's much nicer doing most of the work on a cool bike, and only doing the hot stuff that's required when the thing is hot.
