Default HELP, large riders + SG

Hi,

I have now tryed, original, 6,5inch, 9.5inch and Cee Baileys SSC 12" and the turbulence is too much to drive over 50mph. I am 6 feet tall and +300 pounds.

I think getting a really tall wind shield will destroy the idea and the look of my SG.........#¤#/¤%&(T&)

How are the road glide riders thinking (I dont think they sell road glides here in europe but I could try to hunt one if it works) ?

I am quit sad and tired on my SG at the moment and my vacation starts tomorrow and I was planning a 5000 miles trip to southern europe but don´t wanna ride like a woodpecker.

WHat do you suggest?

Wow, that bad hey. I wonder what the guys that don't have a shield do. I have the tall shield and don't care what it looks like the main thing is that I'm comfortable.

I also feel that I am looking down on the instrument panel and my hogtunes sing to my stomach. It feels too small........

What does road king custom or road glide riders think?

6'3" and could ride all day at 50 with a 4" and a half helmet! I mainly use the 6" and will put on the 9" for longer rides. Fairing air deflectors, fork air baffle and a FULL face helmet are good solutions. So is a Gold Wing if ya really don't like wind.[X(]

RK Custom perspective:
Instruments (speedo/turnsignals) on the tank...I'm looking down
Hogtunes...no gots...wind sings to my ears.

I rode the first 700-800 miles without a windshield. Just brutal at highway speeds. That chrome wind deflector directs the wind right into your face. Felt like my helmet (1/2 lid) was about to come off.
The windshield I bought is a little too tall for me. The top is right at eye level. Annoying (eyesight), but better than nothing (wind buffetting). Trying to look through the windshield at night, in the rain, with on coming traffic (headlights) is borderline scary. I'll cut it down or buy a shorter one soon. That said, it is a huge improvement over no windshield, both on highway and back roads. I still ride backroads w/out windshield, but rarely wear a helmet for those rides. Much more difficult to converse with my passenger (maybe a good point

There are some recent posts on this forum that discuss this issue. As I recall, they include discussion of windshild height; helmet/face shield issues; and turbulence from below windshield (addition of lower deflectors). Search and read up, those posts may help.
Good luck and enjoy your 5k ride.

I had a problem with my SG and buffeting but my 9" Fastaire solved almost all of it. I hardly feel it anymore. Like BH said you can try Harley's fork baffle and fairing air deflectors as the buffeting is coming from down below. Just don't listen to him about the Goldwing part.

One dealer here in Finland have a brand nec RK custom 2005 in black cherry and I think I will try to go for it. I dont think that litle fairing will cause any problems with me because I have a rally tall back and short legs. It is possible to change the nacelle to the regular RK modell?
