Gonna kill someone dead
05 Ultra. First HD. 13600 km..Not miles. Took it on May 12 to dealer telling them clutch or something acting strange..Tech test rides and says something wrong. First appt. available..June 5th. Drop bike off Sunday the 4th. A tech again rides and say not right. Monday the 5th, Go to check whats up and bike is in lot. Dealer says all good and had changed a bearing somewhere. 3 techs road that day and all say it is good but they all say trani is VERY LOAD AND CLUNKS. I ask to borrow a helmet and test ride. Not even outa the lot and clutch or whatever makes exact same noise..I go back in and service mgr again takes out. Comes back and says leave the bike. Will look at again. Says for sure trani clunks to LOUD..I am leaving in 6 days for a long trip. He says should be all good. I ask if trani needs parts then what..This dealer some years ago burned to the ground..He says no problem, we will steal parts outa a trani that is in storage upstairs that was kept from the fire..BULL...They say bike should be ready Tuesday..So far nothing they touched is fixed..Now used or burned up parts going in maybe..While I am looking at the bike which went in SPOTLESS..Has oil sprayed all over it..I ask what is this crap..Oh they say, we were running it with the primary opened up to see what we could..Must be oil..Nice..So here is the question..First what can I or should I do..Second is the oil gonna do damage to paint..Third if they work on the trani, whats chances they can fix..I have no idea whats up so not sure if a small part or major will be stolen from a burned out trani..If they get this thing together and I put on my work order that used or burned parts were put in, when I get back can I force the issue with MOCO to get a trani brand new into the beast or am I to eat this crap and carry on..Any ideas what may be wrong and solution would help..Any contacts with HD CDA or USA that I should be calling..Help and steer me somewhere.
Tape record the SOB's!
I guarntee you those bikes have salvage titles if any at all. I also gaurantee they were compensated for their loses via insurance and are comitting insurance fraud by continuing to sell those parts.
The MOCO will go through the roof.
Then I'd find a new dealer.

Also, what's the deal with the tranny....isn't it under warranty? Why wouldn't the MOCO pay for it? Why would a dealer use used parts if the MOCO pays for it?
I'd put money on it that they are charging the MOCO for new parts and using the old parts to burn off inventory to make more $$$.

I think by what I read that they are only using the "burnt" bike parts because of the time involved. You said you need the bike done right away right? If they cannot get you your new parts in that time frame then they are going to rob parts of another new bike that was burnt.
Not knowing, but I agree with Wild1, they seem to be trying to get you on the road. This is different from someone who says "sorry, no way".... In these type situations I admire a little out of the box thinking to make it work with your time table...IMO
I agree with the thinking of getting me on the road but the theory is to open it up, see what it needs and then find out if parts are available..Then go to plan B..At this time they did not say anything about sourceing parts. Just gonna use the burnt ones...Someone asked were they giving it back dirty..Yes, when I got there yesterday along with them not fixing the original problem and saying it was good to go..It was dirty as in covered in oil..Tank, seat, side covers..Also as mentioned first HD so was sort of thinking to loud but this forum has many times said trani is clunky so thought it was normal..5 techs road this bike in 3 weeks and as of yesterday afternoon when they say it is way outa wack for noise and clunk, they were giving me the bike back to ride..Now look at this and realize if this is a severe issue and potential for failure, why not say the bike has an issue and you need to leave it here on the bench,,not in the yard put together and ready to be picked up..I do not expect miracles but they should and are expected to as EXPERTS take note of things and bring them to the customers attn..Now lets go one step further, put in say a part in the trani that has been in a burn to the ground fire, imagine thats a bit more than hot, and now put it into your trani and tell ya she is all good..When something lets go at say 70 MPH..You can try and keep it up..I will pass.

I dont want to scare you, but last year, I had some serious electrical issues with my R.K. and it was in the shop for about 6 weeks, during our short riding season here in Minnesota, Anyway Im warning you now that H.D. customer service is the WORST that I have ever dealt with, (phone calls not returned, passed on to other people , lied to, etc.) anyway in the end I refused to take my old bike back and the dealer was decent enough to get me into a new bike at a minimal cost, You know the saying, "the squeeky wheel gets the grease"? Id start making all the noise I could rite now. Get on the phone with H.D. (eventhough Im not sure it will do much good) and demand new parts, H.D. can overnite parts to the dealer. (trust me I know for a fact). Also find out the name of the local H.D. Rep and call him at home if need be. If your bike is under warranty demand it fixed fast and with new parts, no way in He!! would I let them throw in used burnt up parts.
Update. Waited all day with no call from dealer. Went there after work. Bike was supposed to be being ripped apart again as of last nite. Was it. No idea if it was touched. When I went there the bike was moved outside still sprayed in oil. They claim that they as of today took the clutch apart again, took the trani top cover open, pulled out the plugs and hand turned engine over and inspected the trani, put back together and test road with no results. Say they are stumped. All looks normal wear for 13600 km..Not miles. The bike when I arrive is cold as ever, seem to look the exact same as what I left yesterday with no new signs of greasy fingerprints on derby cover or nothin. I forgot to check if the milage had been racked up to show test ride..Service manager says he is calling the bigger service guy out east in Toronto. I am in Calgary. Knowing that I am at the 11th hour before calling off holidays he was to busy to call today..Thanks...Asked him, why play around with this and slap a trani in or at least some attempt and got brushed off.. Said he would call me by noon tomorrow..This is becoming a gongshow.. Can not find why noise in clutch...Or the cause of the major clunking when up or down shifting. I did not realize how bad this is till I listened to a bike coming to dealer and then mine returning from another joy ride..Like WOW.. Does anyone have any special contacts or tele numbers that can shorten up the chase..Anyone ever heard of the trani being this loud and if so why..Does what they said they were gonna do make any sense as an attempt to find the issues or are they blowin smoke up my butt..1 more day and I feel that I am forced to cancel a trip thats been planned with 1 other guy for 6 weeks now..HELP..
