I didnt know there was a rep in the area. I think there is a 1-800 number in your owners manual that you can call for these kinds of problems. Also check the harley canada website. Does this dealer rent bikes? I know there is one or two in Calgary that does. If so I would try and get them to give you a rental bike for your vacation so at least you can go. Or just take your bike and go on the trip. If it dies it dies.
Let me see If I can make a phone call for you. I have two friends that work for HD corporate. One is an experimental mechanic, the other is a project coordinator. I do not knwo if they would do anything but they do work for corporate.
Any help would be great. I understand that things break but problem A is making a person wait this long to begin with..May 12th to June 5th..And now 3rd day without any results..Problem B is the fact that know one knows after 3 days whats wrong. Did these guys just fall off the turnip truck. I have asked for a rental,,so far not..I have asked what I should do about the rooms booked and the other guy who booked time off to go,,no answers..I will be there for the 3rd day in a row in a few hours likely to be let down and find it in the parking lot for the 3rd day in a row with all the EXPERTS saying..I DO NOT KNOW..Yesterday was the same as the day before..No answers..Today was supposed to have a call no later than noon..Now its near 1 pm..No call..I can gaurentee one thing..When this thing gets dealt with it will go to another location to be checked as they are showing me now that they do not have anyone that works there that knows how to trouble shoot, fix or treat anyone that paid big bucks for their product..I think I am the proud owner of a piece of crap.
I would seriously go in and ask the dealer who their Harley Rep is, and ask for his phone number, I bet it makes them at least a little nervous, Any decent dealer would at least offer you a bike to use since it is taking them so long. I feel bad for you, I went through the same headaches you are going through now, I Also had a trip planned while my bike was in the shop, and I did miss my trip, however I did get a new bike out of the dealer. Go to the H.D. websight and get the customer service number and as the dealer for the name and number of their H.D. Rep.
New update. Went to dealer yesterday afternoon. Bike was not in parking lot but was on a bench. They were just putting it back together again. I did not test ride for long but I think there is some progress. After closer inspection looks like from factory had put a clutch basket in it that was outa round. So they either dropped it before install or it was made outa round. SO as you would let out the clutch of course a bit of a wobble there gets magnified and result is listed above..Not sure iff all is repaired but getting a bit closer..Keep ya in the loop later..For those whoe said they had same trouble..Best check clutch basket..I think it was wobblin maybe like a 32nd of an inch..
Yota,
as you know, I am having the same problem. If the clutch basket was out of round, wouldn't it show up when the bike is cold? Mine does it only when hot also. I'm just thinking out loud. Any ideas?
Gary D.
Perhaps not. Think about it this way. First metal changes size as it gets hot so the distortion level could be different from cold to hot..Also the oil in trani and primary are cold..I am not sure how oil knows when to change say from 75 to 90 weight but it may have something to do with it..Yesterday when I and the tech test road it seemed different and better but I was limited on how far I went. Friday the real parts will be in as the basket they tossed in there was used and as crazy as it sounds damaged..Starter gear teeth broken off for a few teeth in a row. I have no idea yat if all is good but at least there seems to be som light. If ya need to know more, it sounds like my dealer talked to the service expert in Toronto CDA.. I can get his name and will post and your people can call that guy and maybe work things out for you..If ya look at the basket there is an outer and inner cast that spin. One of the pieces seemed great but the inner one I think it was had like a small out of round thing going on. Now all of this is my theory only and am running with what was told to me and assumed the rest but makes sense. Get that baby spinning at say 1300 or so when taking off from a stop and ya can see the rest for yourself. As mentioned dealer orders new basket and say install on Friday..Then I will toss a leg over it for a good long boot and see what it does..You all here will be the second to know after me..I hope this works out..
