I have 01' FLHTCI with 61,000 miles on it when I notice what sounded like lifter noise. It turns out to be my cam chain tensioner. I had it replaced and no more noise!!! It should be looked at with 33,000 miles on it anyway. Good luck This is also covered under warranty. If you like your bike and plan to keep it awhile I would check into replacing it with gear cam.
i wouldn't think it is the cam chain tensioner this is an 08 road king, it has the new tensioner that the dealers say they have never had a problem with. but who knows? not may 08 bikes with 35,000 mi. on them. it might be worth chcking out.
was using moblil 1 v-twin untill last 2 changes (thought it might be the mobil 1 causing the problem but it wasn't) never tried the stabilizer. what does it do?
thanks rap, i will give it a try on my next oil change, should be coming up soon. hope it will work. will the stablizer have any ill effects on the engine?
i have another question, will it hurt my engine if i continue to ride with the lifters making the excessive noise at start up? like i said they quieten down after running 3-4 min.
will it harm the pushrods or rockers? just seems like that excessive clanging would eventually wear something out. my dealer has told me to ride it till they can get it in their shop.
You should not need adjustable push rods with hudraulic lifters ! what you could try is a set of Johnson HY LIFT lifters and a Baisley oil pump relief spring, the spring will raise your oil pressure and the Johnson lifters are far better than the oem ( junk ) lifters and should not bleed down. I think most motors will tap a little on a cold start but it should only take a few seconds for the lifters to pump up.
