Question Getting Fuel Vapor Smell?

I have a 1999 Ultra Classic with M&M fuel injection. I get fuel vapor smell, when I have a half a tank of fuel or less. Not so much when it's full of gas. Someone suggested maybe my vent tube has come lose. Also there is a little valve right under the seat on the fuel vent tube. Do those go bad. I think there just to prevent fuel from coming out in the event of a wreck. Any ideas or experience with this problem? Thanks

Do you smell it in the morning before you ride, or is it after. I get the odor on a hot day after the ride, but its coming from the exhaust.

I`ve noticed fuel smell around my `09 RG since day one. Nothing dripping or showing signs of leaks so figure it`s the nature of the beast.

I've discovered that the fuel vapor valves in the new bikes are "free flowing", meaning they are open all the time. The only time they close is in the event of a tip-over, at which time the weight of the gas will close the valve. So in other words, the valves does NOT open only when sufficient pressure has built up.

So yes, you can/will smell fuel vapors sometimes, especially after a ride when the heat of the motor is radiating to the gas tank and is causing expansion.

Mines a 96 and the smell of gas started about 6 weeks ago, after I toped off the tank, on a bone head move. Didn't have it before but I thought it could also be the 110 to 115 days we've had?
