Is there any one out here that can change back the mileage on a speedo?
I want to buy a friends gages and speedo but want my on mileage not his.

 

check with the dealer i think there must be you can buy a new one and have it set to your millage so you must be able to do it to a used one but i dont know for sure

 

I believe that data is stored in the onboard computer not in the gauge. When you install a new gauge it picks up the existing mileage from the computer. Not absolutely sure about this, but seems I read it in the manual.

Mileage is stored in the speedometer. Never heard of anyone that can adjust the mileage. You can order a new speedometer from HD and have your mileage put on the speedo from the factory. In the state of Virginia if you change a speedometer on any vehicle the mileage must be the exact same as the old one. If not, when you sell the vehicle/bike you are required to annotate on the title that you can not verify the mileage...

 

I can only think it will be as close to "impossible" as one can get, and so it should be I guess to stop 2nd hand dealers "fiddling"

 

I had my speedo changed on my RK by the factory and had to submit my current mileage so HD could apply it to the new speedo. This is only done through the dealer so, I am asumming the milage is saved in the speedo not the ECM.

 

+1 on it being on the speedo not the ECM. I changed my speedo to a speedo/tach combo, and had to supply my mileage to the dealer, and when the speedo arrived, it had the exact mileage. a few months later i was having issues with the tach, so went back to the old speedo for a while, and it had the mileage that was on the bike when i took it out.

 

Thanks to all the used car dealers who used to roll back the mileage on their cars, it is a legal issue. I sure wouldn't want to buy a bike with 50000 miles on it and only 10000 showing on the speedo.

 

if this were do-able every dealer would be altering used bikes to appear as "low mileage" units. imagine what that would do to credibility. used car dealerships before the days of electronic speedometers knew all the cheats, but it was unethical/illegal to alter mileage. so, why such an interest in your mileage than what's actually on the odometer? if you're concerned, write the mileage down in your owners manual, but the contract when you bought the bike will have the mileage on it. i'm sure someone has figured out how to hack into them, but i like knowing what the real mileage is on my bike, cars, etc.
