Look Ma! no clunk!!!!
Today was the last straw, beside the previous times my neighbor asked why my bike is so loud, why my bike is so shinny, today he had the gull to ask why my bike sounds like its going to fall apart when I engage first gear. Well I know a trick my Dad taught me years ago but never use it because I personally enjoy the sound, makes me feel manly. You might also hate the noise or have a d**k head neighbor so here is a easy way to stop it........
Engage clutch, move bike backwards 6" to 1', shift into first gear (Look Ma! NO CLUNK!!!!) Release clutch, go do burn-outs all over your neighbors lawn if he's anything like mine. hehe

Yep, the primary spins 'til you disengage the clutch. Proper primary chain adjustment will minimize the clunk.

I've tried the clutch thing and true it will quiet clunk noise some of the time but I think the clunk is something you have to accept. I have heard that "CLUNK" on many jap touring bikes, so we are not alone.
You should have asked him why he has the kind of face you want to punch.
