Default Running Rich

My 08 UC is apparently running rich...but only on one side. If you look in the tailpipe, one is black, the other is grey. Also, the one has turned the pipe into a yellowish hue. The other side is perfect.

I have a SE Stage 1 programmer on the bike.

Is this something I can adjust or does it need to go to the dealer?

very little goes out the left side pipe. the scavenge effect of the front and rear cylinders directs the most flow out the right.

Thanks Huff. So if I am hearing you correctly, this is normal behavior and I have nothing to be concerned with?

yes, it's normal. look at your headers, they flow mostly out of the right muffler, with the left flowing a small percentage, but nowhere near what the right pipe flows. that's why the right muffler is darker inside than the left. totally a normal situation. it almost works like a 2 into 1 system, with the left muffler being there just so it looks balanced. the left does flow a bit of exhaust, but about 2/3rds of it, i'd say, flows out of the right pipe. when you start it, while it's cold, cup a hand over each muffler end and you'll see what i mean. it's a good system and it does work well. don't be concerned, because it's normal.

you're sure welcome tx-skydiver. i think one of the reasons they kept two mufflers was so they could keep the look of twice pipes. the stock headers are quite efficient, it's the mufflers that sorta suck. unless you like your bike to sound like a 79 buick. i'm using rinehart slip ons, and there are many types of slip ons available, easy to install, and they do improve the sound to a satisfying level of sound. glad i was able to be of some help. happy thanksgiving.

I currently have the ThunderHeaders and absolutely love those pipes. I just wish I could get them to not turn yellow. Oh well. The sound is worth it and the saddlebags hide most of it.

My Vance and Hines pipes haven't turned yellow, but my downpipe out of the Rear Cylinder is yellowing. Front looks fine. I still have the factory headers and pipes out to the mufflers. After christmas gonna buy some Vance and Hines Duals and keep my mufflers. Will see then if it makes a difference. I guess the rear cylinder gets hotter and runs a little leaner than the front.
