On the way to the Bluesfest tonite with my wife. I spot a kid on a bike, on my right, heading accross the street from behind a parked car. I yelled, came down hard on the brakes, veered a little to the right, smacking the kid's bike on it's rear wheel, just as I was almost coming to a stop. The bike and 8 year old boy, wearing no helmet, spun off to the left and went down. Fortunately he was okay, just a bit shook up, rear wheel of his brand new bike bent up real bad. We stayed up okay with no damage to my bike. Took him home and talked to his Mom. Tomorrow morning I am taking him to the bike shop to get his bike fixed and buy him a helmet. What a terrible feeling, just gratefull there were no injuries!
Bounty - You are doing a great thing in helping out with the helmet and wheel for the kid. BUT...be careful that it is not construed as an admission of guilt. I hate that I thought this immediately, but in today's society people are so quick to take advantage of the legal system.
A small price to pay (imho) for something that could have had life long consequences for everyone involved.....high 5's for teaching him the importance of a helmet!! Glad no one was seriously injured.
