Question Tuning Advice

I have a 2008 Roadglide that is just a fantastic bike. The only problem I have is that it runs lean and pings at around 3000 rpm under load and acceleration. After conversations with dealers and reading info on several sites there are several options. I have looked into the HD Race Tuner, Power Commander V, and the Thundermax Auto Tune system. I also figure if I am going to go one of these routes I would probably add a free flow air cleaner and also the Vance and Hines Monster Ovals. I basically want something that will let the bike run cooler and the way it should without the EPA restrictions. Part of my problem with the decision is that the loacal dealers are offering a significant discount in my area due to slow cash flow during the winter. The specials end Jan 31st. Now the difficult part. The Thundermax is not available yet for my bike due to the Throttle by Wire System. It will be out soon but not until after Jan 31st, so good by discounts. The power Commander V is listed for 2009 and later bikes. Local independent shop has had no problems with it in 2008 bikes but a rep from Dynojet said they do not specifically say it will work or recommend it for 2008 bikes. Also have seen some folks here that were not too happy with it down the road. So bottom line do I go for the HD set up or suck it up and wait for the Thundermax and pay the extra. As always money is a big player but would rather wait and get something that will work and will be satisfied with. Also want a system that I dont have to worry or mess with. Sorry for such a long thread but the knowledge from you guys is amazing.

Thanks

I'd recommend contacting Jaime @ Fuel Moto and ask him. I purchased a PC-V for my 2007 Nightster Sportster (when the box & others said for 2008-up) & I couln't be happier. I'll be using him for the tunning on our 2010 RoadGlide as well. Plus, if you need a different map, Boom, he sends you one right away(email). His customer service is unmatched. "That's my opinion & I could be wrong" but I don't think so......

Sounds like calling Jamie @ FuelMoto (site sponsor) would be a pretty good move for you. He has a ton of experience, particularly with the Powercommander. He has done many PCV's on pre-'09 bikes with success. Give 'em a call. Great guys to deal with.

I have an 08 SG and I put the SERT, heavy breather ac and rinehart true duals on the bike practically before I got it home. The sert is a bit more expensive than the others but if your constantly dealing with a Harley dealer vs an indy, then it may be the way to go. Now remember, you can put on an AC and pipes yourself or at least the air cleaner so have them put the pipes on and hold the ac back until the tuner becomes available that you seem to want. This way you have some of the savings done now and then the difference in price for the sert or other tuner would probably be a wash. I don't really see a problem with any of the tuners so if price is the true determining factor, do what adds up. I will be curious to see what you choose.

I would say get the TTS tuner, its made by the same people that made the S.E.R.T. until two years ago and its a better unit then what HD sells now plus you can v-tune it while you ride. I'm not a expert but if you have your own laptop its pretty easy to do or have it dyno tuned its takes a lot less dyno time with the TTS.
