Default Extending the brake lines

This may have been beat to death by now, but I can't find much in the search area about changing out and extending the front brake lines as part of the handlebar swap. I have an 06 RK Std, want to go to braided lines, and have a few questions:
1. Is it possible to just change the upper line, will it connect with the clamp under the triple tree and use the stock lower lines for now?
2. If not, are the pre-assembled kits just as good a choice as separate components and assembling them myself?
3. Are all the brands pretty much equal, as long as the ss is coated to prevent damage and the fittings are ss or chrome?

Thanks in advance for any advice - I've never messed with the brake system myself before, so I don't want to mess something like this up!

1.)The stock set-up is a one piece unit. You can not just replace the upper line.

2.)The pre-assmbled kits are fine.

3.) I think all brands are pretty much equal. Be aware that the clear can yellow with time as seen in the pic of this 1999 bike below....All fittings I have ever used were chrome.

Thanks, I did not know that the stock line was not a 3 pc like the aftermarket setups. Anything to prevent the yellowing?
