Default Compression releases or not?

Just got home from talking with my engine builder,Looks like im going with the S&S 106 kit with 10.1 comp.stock heads and my andrew 50HG GEAR DRIVE CAMS,He said i dont need comp. releases im not sure.My other problem is my bike works well now but is lacking in low end torque.will this help. These cams work good above 3000 rpm so i will keep them.any input will be a great help since im ready to order, just doing my homework, also want it to be reliable

When I pulled the heads off mine, I had them put CRs in. It wasn't that much to add them and if I never need them it will be fine by me.

I plan on doing CRs with my 103, woods tw6-6 build ( as soon as Uncle Sam pays up ). Not sure if I will need them but just in case. Most of what I have seen 70% of the 103, 255 builds either got them or wish they had them. It being a 106 I would go with them while the heads are off.

Btw Bagger76 that is a bad a$$ ride !! My mod plans for now are Go not Show. Looks like you got both

My Deluxe - SE Stage II - 103, 251 cams, ported heads, 50 mm throttle body has CR. I had no clue about CR until I took the bike to my Dealer after I bought it and my tech pointed the buttons out & explained what they were for. The guy I bought the bike off of said the compression release was automatic. Well, it wasn't...my tech said I should use them to prolong the life of the starter. Now, I just need to establish a routine/habit of pushing them in when I get off the bike since I'm not used to having to do it. (RK, which I ride most of the time, doesn't have or need CR)

If I were you, I'd add CR.

There are several reason to have them and no reasons not to. If the heads are off, have them installed................

10:1 really isn't all that high anymore, and with quality components reliability isn't an issue. With that Andrews 50 cam having a 48* intake close, it will bleed off some cylinder pressure. As such, compression releases might not be necessary, but you are on the right track with the "as long as the heads are off" approach.

10.1 is getting up there (in my opinion) - do it while the heads are off. Do ACR if you can then you never have to thimk about it.

While 10.1 isn't killer the issues I've had with high compression on my Fatboy (95 Cu in no CRs 10.5:1) have always been warm starts. It doubtless depends on the combination of pistons AND cam choice but I'd do it. Cheap insurance.
