RJ Originals plain-$140, prices go up from here
Capt Itch-plain-$70, plain w/studs-$119, basketweave-$129, basketweave w/studs-$149
HD, they call them air-delectors that direct the heat away...$75
Kuryakyn- clear polycarbonate- $40,(clearance on sale), $70 for the smoke ones,
Correct me if I am wrong, but it looks like some sheilds would/may make it difficult in running any wires from the battery to the front end.

Default No More fried thighs

AMEN on RJ originals, good fit, EXCELLENT quality, easy installs (i've heard that the install of the plastic one is a B*&^$) I love min on my SG. Pay just a bit more, but in this case you get what you pay for. Good Luck http://rjsoriginals.com/

I have been on the unemployment train for a few and couldn't afford any of the above mentioned, at least right now. So I broke out the sewing machine, had a leather needle in the box. Mother in law was a seamstress at some point in her days. Grabbed an old vest that didn't fit anymore, and made my own. Granted they don't look as clean as RJ's but with a little practice, you never know. But for basically a little thread and some time to figure out the sewing machine, I have mine and boy what a difference. As far as heat to the motor goes, I figure the beauty of a bike is the ability to escape traffic so the longest you idle in the sweltering heat is a few minutes at most. And with today's oils, I'm sure your protected.

Nice idea on making your own, maybe you should put your idea in the MOD/DIY Section? https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...s-to-save.html

They were on the bike when I purchased it. So hard to compare but I haven't had any discomfort on the thighs while riding so maybe they are doing the job they were intended for.
