will 2 into 1 help?
I love my gear drive with S&S 510 cam, but did loose a little torque on bottom end. Does anyone know if a 2 into 1 exhaust would help enough to justify cost? I was thinking of the Supertrapp as I want to keep things a little quiet. I now have the stock pipes with Samson mufflers and after the cam swap it got really loud.
The supertrapps are excellent and might smooth out the low end torque but the cam closes the intake at 38 degrees abdc. This raises the point where the engine goes "on the cam" and you will lose some low end torque. On my RG I used the Andrews TW 21G as they close at 30 degrees. Your cam will give you more HP but it sacrifices low end torque to get it. The cost of the supertrapps will not give you what you want. It may improve slightly but the cost per torque wouldn't be worth it IMO. If it's too loud try some supertrapp mufflers on the stock pipes. Whatever you decide, pull the packing out of the new mufflers and throw it away. Order some fiberglass cloth and cut to width and wrap your core until it's at least 3/8" thick. More is better. Use some stainless wire or wire ties to hold it against the core roughly 6 inches apart. This cloth will not burn out like the stock crap and actually improves performance. I read this in a Joe Minton article and tried it. A year later I checked it and it was still the same.
I don't want to give up my 510 cam, but want to get rid of my loud samson mufflers on stock pipes and thought the 2 into 1 would be way to go. Anyone else have any experience with this setup?
