yes, keep receipts (for oil, filter, grease etc) and document everything and you will be fine.

Of course you can! But get the H-D service and parts manual for your bike. A must have!

Also, you can get the FixMyHog DVD -- good tips there.

You'll also need some good tools: (assuming you already have SAE socket set)

- complete set of good Torx sockets (t-handles and keys are OK for some things but you need the sockets).
- complete set of hex key sockets (SAE)
- ft-lb and in-lb torque wrenches
- oil filter wrench (I use the end-cap type but H-D recommends a strap wrench)
- H-D belt tension tool
- rear wheel alignment tool (made or purchased)

Dig in. Turn some wrenches, get your hands dirty and learn you bike. Good therapy for me. You wallet will be a little fatter for sure.

You can do it yourself. But be aware that a 5 k service is not just chnging the fluids on all 3 holes.
Belt tension
Clutch adjustment
Spark Plugs
and more.

Had a guy come in last week complaining of an oil leak. The typical I do my own services.
Oil leaking was due to the primary being 1 quart over filled.
The he bitched because it wasnt covered under warranty.

I'll bet you have some good stories to tell!

After being on this forum a while I am beginning to see why the old-timers are upset with the new breed of H-D owner.

unless you have no mechanical skills at all i see no problem saving a few hundred bucks to change my own oils and tighten a belt and a few bolts long as the proper tools are used along with the manual. i am a new breed of hd owner, its called it tough as hell out there now and you gota try save some where you can anymore. there is alot of jobs i wouldnt take on myself concerning my bike but i dont think this is one of them.
