Default Montube Cartridge

Anyone using the Progressive Monotube Cartridge? I have a 2010 Road King. Looking to fix the front end.

Welcome to the club!
I just put a set in my 07 RG, along with 940's and Glide Pro kit. I aave about 200 miles on them and there is an improvement over stock. There are some pros and cons with the glide pro so far. I leaving next week on a trip to Colorado, I will have more to comment on when I get back.
As far as the monotube, it is firmer but the little bumps are feathered out like the dots on the hiway or going into a drive way, but if you hit a bigger bump it is firm but I dont get the clunking like before with the forks compressing the oil. The 940's helped out big time and really smoothed out the back half of the bike, it works well with the front tubes.

Welcome to HDF. Don't rush into this. There are several choices for improving your front forks, including Traxxion and Ohlins inserts. HDF sponsor Motorcycle Metal is working on the Ohlins as we speak. He also does an alternative insert, although as an Ohlins specialist (Howard there also does their rear shocks) I suspect he will drop them in time.

I'm dropping the bike off a week from tomorow to do the Monotubes on the SG along with Chrome lowers. Right now I'l still agonizing over whether or not to do the 1" lowered ones since I raised the bike up with the 21" front. I ride 2 up most of the time and I'm a big guy...so its not looking good for lowered forks.

If ya do the monotubes, dont install the spacer in the kit, this will drop the front end about 1/2" according to progressive. If ya drop the front you will loose travel which equals less ride quality. Give progressive a call and ask for tech.

read there are two now ,ones i put in were not suppose to drop front any but did a little so i put blocks on rear to lower 1 inch, problem solved.im ok with that personally.ive sence read they have a spacer you add? to fix this, read nothing about leaveing out spacer? anyway...it was a substancial improvement to throw in while i was replaceing front with chrome.I will always wonder if something else would have been better but its a bagger so dont know if it would be worth it?

They come with 2 clips, they told me 1=1/2" and 2=1" drop, i went with 1 because it looked like you needed to put one in so the spring had a seat to sit in against the gas chamber. I agonized whether to put them in bcause I didnt want to lower the bike. I didnt take measurements before dis-assembly but the 940's dropped the rear 1" and with 1 clip it sat very nice, I am still able to push it over like before without noticing any less lean angle. I would bottom out exiting my driveway if I didnt leave on a 45*, its not bottoming now.
But they also have a 1" lowered kit with a specific part number, I dont get it that the std height one will lower it also???

Great feedback. I was thinking the monotube being a closed type set-up might take away from the Harley feel. I bought a RK because I want to feel the road, but not the way the stock set-up runs. I have looked at just spring replacement. This would in my understanding keep the "open bath" set-up, perhaps keeping the intended feel for the road. Any comments? Thanks.
BTY I will receive the 940's today.

I intend buying cartridge inserts in the near future, to get away from the current set-up. The improved damping which inserts can give us should be far superior to our current forks and significantly improve the feel you get from the bike.

Just began to install the montubes today on my 09. I called Progressive and made sure about the c clips or spacers. YOU INSTALL THEM ONLY IF YOU WANT TO RETAIN THE STOCK HEIGHT< NOT LOWER YOUR BIKE! When the monotubes first came out, some riders found there bike sat about 1/2 lower than the stock setup. They complained to Progressive and now the kits come with 2 spacers or c clips for each tube. If you install 1, you sit 1/4" higher, install 2, sit 1/2" higher or close to stock. Leave em out, sit 1/2" lower. There is a differnt set of tubes for a 1" or 2" drop. This is direct from PROGRESSIVE!
